Yeah awesome, heard a lot about CDW but never been. I just finished up a mentorship with Robotpencil online, which was pretty epic but really cool that CDW exists in Adelaide

Interesting, whats your opinion on these gaming specific courses ? Do they actually teach you things you can't learn elsewhere, or do they just help push you along something you're already good at ? I'm enrolled at university and curious if these schools are similar to uni or more like TAFE Β

JeffTalbot In reply to DeVmarine [2015-02-06 06:45:12 +0000 UTC]
I wouldn't say CDW is a gaming specific course. It's more about the art that is used in the creation of games movies and many other fields.
CDW teaches you the fundamentals skills that are required for working in the industry.
One thing I really like about CDW is that the teachers are professional artists who have worked for big companies like World of Warcraft and they're are super friendly and always willing to answer any question you ask.
Each class is run with the teacher doing demos and assigning tasks to the students, then the next week the teach will do paint overs and explain why your painting is not working and how your can improve it.Β
I should mention that I am also studying Creative Arts (Digital Media) at Flinders Uni doing my Honours year. In just one 8 week course I learnt more from CDW than two years of Uni in the same field. The only reason I am still at Uni however is because I need the centrelink money so I can study without needing to work
I really recommend having a look into CDW and seeing if it is something that would intertest you.
If you have any questions feel free to ask me or you can chuck it up on their facebook page www.facebook.com/pages/CDW-Stuβ¦ Β Β

Hey thanks for your question
I've been doing art for about just over a year and a half. Before that I was a actually a web developer.
I made the change after discovering the school CDW Studios www.cdwstudios.com/ at a convention and I just knew that's what I wanted to do for a living.

Just looking through your work and you are having a really good start.
Getting better takes a lot of practice, there is no such thing as talent.
If you would like to drawing people, a good person to learn from is Proko, he explains drawing the figure really wellΒ www.youtube.com/user/ProkoTV
If you would like to do landscapes I would recommend James Paick and Simon Scales CDW DVDs www.conceptdesignworkshop.com/β¦ but you'll need a wacom if you don't have one. There are plenty of other great tutorials around these are just the ones I use the most.
Β Unfortunately there's no short cuts, but just keep working hard and you will improve!Β
