The setting takes place in the summer of 1899. *-*// The press, a.k.a The World is managed by Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst. The Newsies ( orphans, runaways, etc. ) is who's story is told, and when the cost of the papers that they have to distribute is raised, they plan to strike. The story revolves around two ( or three, if you count Les; David's younger brother ). Jack Kelly is one of the main characters that is well-known among the Newsies; they call him 'Cowboy'. Barely into the movie, you'll meet David Jacobs; who's father was injured and he's trying to earn somewhat of a mediocre living for the time that his father is out of work/the factory -- by selling papers with the Newsies until his father recovers, with his younger brother, Les Jacobs. Les really likes Jack. ...and David doesn't. They become friends, yadda yadda yadda~
David = Brains behind the strike.
Jack = Leader/loud voice of the strike.
Les = ....Cute of the movie. X3
Later on in the movie with the Newsies uniting and gathering for the strike, they meet a reporter named Bryan Denton. ( XD;;; He's so cute. ) He takes an interest with the Newsies' sudden agreement to strike, since just recently there'd been a trolley worker strike ( whiiiich didn't bode exactly well with the fires and breakouts and a few protestors murdered... ). He plays a nice role in this movie, as a reporter, he himself is clinging onto the edge of whatever he can earn himself since the press is so big and one person ...is not, quite. He gets along with the Newsies and gets them on the front page, feeds them - our Good Samaritan of the movie.
...aaaaand this is getting waaaay too long, so I'll let you watch the movie on your own.
I have to give to you, though, the music to the movie is REALLY FREAKING CATCHY. My favorites are 'Carryin' da Banner' ( ♥♥♥♥♥ ), 'Seize the Day'( ♥♥♥ ), and King of New York ( ♥♥♥♥♥ XD;;; ). ...ALL OF THEM ARE CATCHY. *__* The only warning to this movie is that you'll probably catch yourself singing or humming these unintentionally. I watched this movie for the first time in ...third or fourth grade? *Points at webcam.* Watched it again just recently, hence, and I AM IN LOVE. *W* Watchwatchwatch ( s'il vous plait? )
