I was also completely unaware that sending your child to school, feeding them, clothing them, sheltering them, giving them hugs and kisses, reading them stories before bedtime, teaching them right from wrong, cheering them up when they're sad, having fun with them, giving them presents on their birthdays and on Christmas, spending quality time with them and being a loving parent in general was considered "wrong."

If understand you do what says Yoda does, proof it is of how unimportant proper grammar is.
The whole point of language is to help translate ideas and thoughts into sound patterns easily recognizable by others. Proper grammar will guarentee that a majority of people will understand you, sure. BUT... if you don't use proper grammer and people can STILL understand what you're talking about, then it doesn't matter. Ebonics, and the fact that people can still understand you when you say "where you is", is probably the best example of how proper grammer isn't THAT necessary. Similarly with l33t speak and celphone text; as long as you're successful in transfering thoughts and ideas to others, that's good enough.
