I happened across one of your comments ([link] ). From what I saw, you used plain reason and logic-- not the usual bashing or heavily opinionated stuff, which is why I was curious about getting an opinion from you? (if you don't mind of course! )
In my school (it's a Christian school ^^"'), we were being taught ways to go through a debate with reason rather than weak arguments of opinion. One debate we came across was how to respond to the Big Bang. And, well, obviously, it was radical Christian views... though some were good points, others seemed a bit blind. One however, caught my attention:
If all matter was created by the Big Bang, what created the Big Bang?
So, sorry about the random stranger coming to you with a question, but what's your opinion on the Big Bang?
(oh, and welcome to ! It's a fun group )

I don't mind at all ^^ (Personally I thought I came off as harsh, but having several friends who live in Japan that particular user pissed me off to no end ><)
There's plenty of different theories on what 'created' the big bang, the big bang on the other hand doesn't mean the creation of the universe. In other words it's a common misconception that the big bang created the universe, it did however create our solar-system. We do have evidence there was a big bang ([link] contains quite a bit info for example though it's a long read), but there are as of yet no proven theories as to what exactly caused it.
In one of my replies I kind of already stated which one I lean to (but since they were a mile long ). Action means reaction and a rather basic theory would be that there was something that existed before the sun, the earth etc. were created. When the 'previous' solar system exploded it gave us the basic materials. Considering that our sun will eventually implode (or at least it's heavily suggested since it'll run out of the needed elements eventually), there's a chance that when it does a new big bang will occur and yet another solar system will be created and so on. Others say it's due to other solar systems dying etc.
Also, it's not impossible for things to become something out of nothing (Casimir effect).
It's also somewhat interesting to know we more or less discovered alien 'lifeforms' too. Similar extremely basic organisms were found on a meteorite, meaning they still need the billions of years to advance the way we did, but at least we're not alone (though more testing is always required and no one dares utter the words alien lifeforms really As for the 'alien', it's a veeeeeeeeeeery tiny squiggly little worm-like thing, kind of cute really) XP It also heavily suggests that unlike what is believed throughout tradition - that life started on earth - that in fact life began when the universe was born. But we're nowhere near ready to find out how that happened though and I doubt I'll be alive by the time they do XP

Yeah, well, that particularly user wasn't exactly using sympathetic/logical arguments either, lol-- I think you handled it better than I would have if I were debating with them
Finally, a light! LOL. I never could understand how such educated scientists would accept that the Big Bang created EVERYTHING. It makes sense that it didn't create the universe in those regards~
Wow, I've never heard that theory before. It's much more logical than the ones we've been taught to argue against. Is there any examples or proofs of a 'previous' solar system? And is there a particular site that could give me more info on that?
Okay, I looked up the Casismir effect and found nothing in English ^^'' (I even reigned in my pride and went to the "For Dummies" D.
Oh, I've heard of that! Didn't they also find something like them on Mars? (though I could be mixing my info ). Pfff, if they called them aliens, they'd be stereotyped as wack-jobs x'D I'd hate to be in their positions having to find terms that can describe something they found without the media eating it up and blowing it out of proportion-- poor scientists!
Well, you never know! Technologies been leaping stages as of late. It'll be interesting to see what they have in ten/twenty years or so from now ;D

An extremely late reply Real life got in the way
The big bang most certainly didn't create everything. In fact the scientists clinging to said rather outdated theory are even more bigoted than the people they accuse of being religious nuts. Because in their eyes Einstein replaces God and Einstein can never be wrong - though he was already proven to be wrong in several cases. Which isn't that surprising whereas he didn't exactly have the technology to accomplish what current scientists have. Basically they're two opposing 'camps' of which one 'the big bang fanatics' tend to be rather anti-progress. Again, no one accuses Einstein of being wrong! The likely faulty general theory of relativity is an absolute law! D:<
Basically a currently more logical theory is known as 'The Universal Cycle theory', which can explain the massive holes left by the big bang theory. As for proof, the previous 'solar-system' left traces behind like an imprint or 'radiation ring'. There's actually whole books about it. That and there's planets and other solar-systems out there which are a lot older than ours. If everything was created in one go, how is it that they're a lot older? The book 'The Endless Universe' explains it in a rather decent/understandable way, though it's already a bit old-ish. Penrose is another 'cyclic-universe' camp-member, you can find his entire report/findings here: [link] Though be careful, it's rather lengthy and hard to understand
Rather than rely on new proof - though it does have it - the theory relies more on explaining what the big bang can't. For example, unlike the supposed 'gas cloud' that created life, liquefied solids were found - punching a huge hole in their theory. The big bang theorists can't explain the existence of something as simple as ancient-pre-Earth granite. Or the inconsistency in their 'proof' regarding volcanic activity. Research on this particular theory is rather new and new discoveries are often criticized before even looked at. I hate it when people are in denial because someone else might be right :S
The end-calculation is rather simple really. Where does one suppose the 'items' to create life came from? Where do you suppose the found solids came from? The ones that big-bang-theorists denied with a passion just like the existence of a previous proto-sun? What caused the big bang anyway? Especially considering that EVERY action conceives a reaction. If the big bang were a reaction - as everything in life is - what was the event that triggered it? In order to trigger something, something else had to have existed anyway.
Life is quite simply more complicated than 'true' or 'not true' and something which was 'true' before can always be disproved at a later time - like the Earth being 'flat'. A well-supported theory is NOT scientific law. And even a scientific law is subject to change in case something better comes along, whether people like it or not. Both theories fully depend on what a 'black-hole' truly is anyway and we're unable to get close enough to fully understand. Let alone Albert Einstein who couldn't even set foot in space and calculated everything from his little room - so to put it - couldn't POSSIBLY understand what a black hole really is. No one has actually ever even SEEN one. Save for the one WE created. Said particle-accelerator punched a massive whole in Einstein's theory anyway. Everything relies on measurements which could in fact be something else entirely. Gotta love 'assumptions taken as fact'. And is the Earth was created in one massive explosion, why did it create planets/stars in our case and NOT a black-hole as often suggested?
The big-bang-theory also relies heavily on scientists that stem from the religious time-period to begin with. There HAD to have been a beginning and an ending, which by all means supports the creationist idea if anything. No other answer is acceptable. The chance that Earth or rather humans are NOT the center of the galaxy, were NOT the beginning of it all and that the galaxy would be able to live on without us and so on is so incredibly offensive to people that they'll stop at nothing to shout at the top of their lungs that everyone else therefor MUST be wrong.
The oldest light 'measured' is about 13.7 billion years old therefor the galaxy must be just as old, yet Einstein's theory on nothing being faster than light is dead wrong, the particles within light travel MUCH faster. A test which has been re-done over 20 times at least. And Einstein's word is taken to such a high level that no one has ever bothered re-measuring the speed of light anyway. And we can't even see more than a fraction of said galaxy to begin with.
The future is just going to have to tell us I suppose Though I doubt either of us will live to see the answer XD
Yeah, labeling something an alien is bound to make one look a bit ridiculous, though in the world of science, anyone who diverts from what people believe to know is a wack-job anyway.
As for the Casimir-effect: [link] XD It's also mentioned in the website I gave in my previous reply.
And I'll be interested in seeing what the future brings too
