# About me
Yo, what up, DAWG?! Nah, let's be serious for a minute here. I am first and foremost an anime artist. I always have been since I was like...I dunno...15? Anyways, I'm also now starting to draw cartoons as well. So, uh, if anyone has any tips, problems, etc, please let me know! Working hard is the game, and stealing art is lame. Steal my art, and there'll be HELL to pay! Seriously, guys...It's lame. Don't do it.About me, I am a happy-go-lucky guy (when I want to be), and I am now in college, working on my computer programming degree, though I have to take a stupid extra math class (freaking COMPASS test). I respond to constructive critique, ass-pats, and praise. I ignore trolls, people who are just plain rude, and people I do not like. Be warned: If you have a different opinion than me, I will love and tolerate the HELL out of you!
MY LIST OF THINGS I WILL NOT TOLERATE:
Bases
Art Thieves
That's pretty much it, as far as I'm concerned.
For those who are faving and critiquing my work, I have but one thing to say. THANK YOU VERY MUCH YOU'RE MY BESTEST FRIEND AND WE WILL BE BESTEST FRIENDS FOREVER!
Now, for the first time, I am doing POINT COMMISSIONS! Prices are listed in my journal, which will be linked via this stamp: Rules for commissions are also listed in this journal entry, so pay attention!

You know, if you don't want people telling you off for being a pretentious self important windbag with delusions of grandiose superiority, don't act like one. You're 22 years old (supposedly), act like it.
As for your "art", you draw anime. I honestly have zero respect for anime artists who go around claiming they draw better than everyone else. Anime is a boring and simplistic style that frankly I can't be bothered with. I have far better and more challenging styles I prefer to work with like Heraldry, Tattoo, Celtic, and *gasp* Semi-Realism. And these are things I have been drawing my entire life, as in since I was 2. In 4th grade I drew the Statue of Liberty and my teacher stated that if she hadn't watched me draw it, she'd swear a college art student had done it.
You are not the best artist on DA, you are nowhere even close to being the best. Get over yourself before someone more bluntly aggressive than I am comes along and kicks that gilded pedestal you've put yourself on right out from under you and laughs while they watch you fall.

Wow, how utterly childish you are to throw insults and death threats around, then block me so I can not respond. If you don't like my DA page, don't look at it. It's that simple. And death threats against anyone are not appreciated, and they are illegal. Cease and desist or be reported to Deviant Art staff.
End Of Line.

AMEN. i was told in my anime phase that it wasnt really art. which i agree and got into better things. like perfecting portraits. people start with anime and refuse to move on later and visit different styles of art. though anime is my guilty pleasure.

**smiles** I'm glad you got out of it. One thing I've personally noticed, and others have noted as well, is that artists who get started drawing anime end up losing the ability to draw anything else because anime is so simplistic and flat, there's no real challenge to it and thus no improvement potential. While for some it can be a jumping off point to start with, it's best to not draw too much of it, if any at all. Better to draw other things and challenge yourself rather than hiding in the simplistic rut styles like anime tend to bury you in. The closest I have ever gotten to drawing anything like anime is the two solitary MLP drawings (80's style) I did a few years ago. While the two pictures were kind of fun to toy with, I felt no sense of real accomplishment when I finished them, thus I have not drawn anything like that since.

I would really love that.

The easiest way to get away from drawing anime is to get into realism, at least I believe so. Go through my folder and pick out some drawing books you want to get and practice with what is in those, then go out and sketch what you see. The easiest way to draw anything is to break it down into basic shapes - triangles, squares, circles, ovals, rectangles, etc. Start with circles for joints and lines or rectangles for bones, and build a skeleton in the pose you want (I use red pencil for this), then start filling in the shape of the body (basic shapes and curves and such) and some details (I use blue pencil for this), then fill in all the details and add anything that needs to be added, such as jewelery, clothing, scars, markings, etc (I use black pencil for this). Once that is done, then you finalize your lines with ink (usually black), then add color, shadows, highlights, and such.
The books I recommend starting with would be:
Drawing Wildlife (©2005), How to Draw Animals (©1969-1983), Anatomy for the Artist (©2002-2005), Any of the DragonArt books by Neon Dragon, Mecha Force - Draw Futuristic Robots that Fly, Fight, Battle and Brawl (©2008), You Can Draw Transforming Robots (©2004), You Can Draw Transformers (©2007), and anything from the Walter Foster Artist's Library series of art books. All of these can be found on Amazon.com or at arts and crafts stores such as Artco and Michael's.

I honestly think the main reason anime is so popular a drawing style among rookie artists is precisely because of the flatness and simplicity you have noted. It looks deceptively easy to draw.

Leathurkatt-TFTiggy In reply to BrandonScottPilcher [2013-07-06 16:53:07 +0000 UTC]
The thing is that it is easy to draw and there is no real room to challenge and improve. THAT is why artists who draw it end up stagnant and unable to draw anything else.

If it were so "easy" to do then anyone could do it, but we can't, I'm sure you can't do it yourself, if you don't like something that is fine but please stop saying something is easy when you can't even do it yourself.
Also, please do a little bit of research on anime/manga "style" because you clearly don't know anything about it (those are not styles those are formats, manga is comic and anime is animation).
It is not easy to do and you can't do it, if it were so easy you could do it like a pro and you can't. Here I will give you a few examples of those "easy" drawings:

Actually, I can draw Anime/Manga, I simply choose not to because it's too easy and simplistic that there is no challenge or sense of accomplishment in drawing Anime/Manga. Do not presume to know me or what I can or can not do. Good day.

Do it, don't say you can do it, that means nothing (and I saw your gallery, I based my opinion on the content of your gallery), draw something "anime" that looks professional since it's so easy to do it I'm sure it wont take you more than 15 minutes to do.

@Leathurkatt-TFTiggy since he blocked me so I couldn't reply.
You're so butthurt is really just pathetic. You can't do it, end of line, nothing in your gallery gives the least of indication that you can do anything similiar to the examples I gave you, please stop giving excuses and just admit your reality. Again, I do not mind if you don't like "anime/manga" that's none of my business but if you're going to say something is easy at least have something to back it up so far I have only gotten excuses from you and attempts at insulting my gallery. No excuses, back up your words or shut the fuck up.

I already told you that I will not draw it and why. It's the same reason I do not draw MLP, though I very easily can. I will not put my ability to draw complex and intricate images at risk of atrophy just to satisfy one butthurt stranger who can't draw anything but Anime and insists on railing at anyone who states the fact that it's simplistic and boring and have no interest in drawing it. Not everything I have ever drawn is in my DA gallery, let alone on line . I have better things to do than to cater to the demands of simpering butthurt fantards.
End of Line.

**nods** Yeah, so you've seen for yourself what I'm talking about. Just keep trying hon, the more you work on improving your art by branching out beyond simple styles like anime, I think the better you'll feel about your art in general. **hugs** Drawing should be something you enjoy doing and do because it's what you want to do, and when you feel good about what you draw, the more you will want to draw. At least that's my experience and what I've seen with other artists. **smiles**

Buniis In reply to Kiwi-Punch [2013-06-11 05:48:40 +0000 UTC]
Well, I was never really critiqued on here until recently. I've been flamed but I just shrug it off.
I originally made this account to favorite artwork and to communicate with real life friends. Then my friends wanted me to post some of my works, so I did but they were base used. my friends liked them, so it took me a while to actually post real drawings.
My only times ever being critiqued was on a journal where I requested for some advise and one of my friends gave me some. I've been meaning to practice since because I agree with what was said. Same reaction as the other one, it was a nice comment on my Jolteon picture.
Honestly, drawing is kind of just a side hobby but I'm still willing to take advice and improve once and a while. I just need to get in the mood to do it again. I really want to, too.

I don't think you should quit art. You are very good and have good and interesting ideas. I understand how frustrating it can be to not get the recognition your think you deserve because I have been in that boat many a time and have closed a few accounts myself here on DA. I always try to tell myself to make art for myself (which I do) and not care what other people think, but I also make comics and stories for other people to enjoy and it can be disappointing at times.
