I read your journal about children's book illustration and I may have some ideas for you. You can either get in touch with a writer who's looking for an illustrator (involves some searching, but I'm sure there are many out there) or you can make your own children's book! Since they're mainly pictures anyway, I'm sure you can come up with a great children's book and have fun illustrating. Maybe your family can offer inspiration? Getting it published is the hardest part though. You either have to solicit to large publishers (which aren't accepting much right now, and are picky) or you can self publish. I'd go for self publishing, then you can advertise your book and promote it all you want! It's a neat process, and good luck!

Self publishing is pretty straight forward. You contact a printer (many are online as "publishers." To find the best ones, ask self published authors about thier experience and advice.) Compare various prices and deals, they'll usually tell you the prices upfront of picture books, # of pages, etc. When you find a publisher you like, you submit the book in the form the publisher requires (for picture book, it might be PSD or PDF file) and they'll print it for you! You pay for the amount of books you want, they give you a launch date, and they ship you the books you ordered. You can even order more if you run out. It's very simple - the hardest part is doing the marketing yourself.
