Things are going pretty good. I just got my internet system hooked up today.

Cameron talked me into signing up on Steam, so I might do that after work.

What about you? How are things on your end?

LeoPanthera In reply to Crystal124 [2013-08-20 16:02:07 +0000 UTC]

Yay!

Oh? You're finally on Steam, huh? What's your steam name? I'll add you so we can play some games some time!

Things on my end are busy busy BUSY. Never really had to work this hard before. It's great! Despite how much time I spend on my work, it's nothing I ever really regret. Sure, complain, but at the end of it all, it's something I really love.

I think it's VMiranda124. I wanted it to be VM_Crystal124, but it shows up as VMirand124 during chats and playing TF2.

I can understand that. I'm working pretty hard at my job as well. The hours are long and I'm on my feet all day, but I' losing every second of it.

Oh yeah, the most you ever see of those kinds of analysis are in professional productions. Everyone likes the imagery, but so few attempt to do the legwork to explain it.

Have you see some of the anatomy drawings the artists for Stitch did to try and explain his extra limbs?

My sister suggested one in San Francisco, although I'll have to look into said college to see if it's the one for me.

HEY YOU THERE!!!

I need help.. I'm trying to think of a way to combine animals. Since you just did that, i can haz help pweez?

LeoPanthera In reply to 09camaro [2012-01-04 20:58:19 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

09camaro In reply to LeoPanthera [2012-01-05 09:22:16 +0000 UTC]

I want an animal combination that takes aspects of a:
Grizzly Bear
American Lion (for the mane)
Silver-back Mountain Gorilla
Red Fox (primarily tail)
Gray Wolf
Red Kangaroo
Hippopotamus
White Rhinoceros
Tyrannosaurus Rex

Though how each one would be incorporated i don't know yet..

LeoPanthera In reply to 09camaro [2012-01-05 18:19:03 +0000 UTC]

Okay well... you got a ton of animals so good. In typical Chris fashion you, in my opinion, over-did it.

So what you're asking is how to incorporate all these pieces into one animal? Well that is the job of a designer! They do for a living exactly what you ask. Unfortunately I am not a good designer. But a good way to start is what you've done already with the Lion and the Fox. You picked an aspect that you wanted to include. So you can do the rest with the other animals. The point is to create an animal that looks good on it's own, believable and NOT slapped together, and to show off the unique aspects of each animal.

It's challenging enough with three animals, but with nine...? I'd have to say, if you're set on this animal, you've got your work cut out for you. I believe it is possible, but the problem lies in how to effectively show all these pieces to the point where you can go up to someone and they can say, "Oh... cool, this kind of looks like uh... kangaroo, lion, bear, t-rex, rhino, wolf, fox, gorilla, hippo."

I can't hold your hand through the process, but I can tell you what process I use. You have your animals, you have your list of aspects. Now start experimenting! Draw like there's no tomorrow with "thumbnails" of your final piece. Small versions of what you might see for your end product. My advice is to keep experimenting with the aspects. Combine the animals differently. In designer terms: Shape, Form, Texture. Experiment with them. How will the animal look if I make it heavy in the front with large muscley arms and tiny back legs? How about if I break the silhouette with the rhino horns? Etc. The trick is to try something new each time, which after your third or fourth drawing, is extremely difficult. At that point you should really think about taking a break, walking around, doing something else, look up pictures for inspiration. Then come back without looking at your previous drawings. Remember, the point of the break is to relax, clear your mind, and to help you with new ideas when you get back. So that's the tricky part. Clearing your mind while keeping an eye out for new ideas.

Like I said before, problems arise with too many animals. You have 100%'s worth of animal to worth with. Now you have to distribute that to like... 9 animals and grab 10.1% of each of them to make a whole new one. At some point one animal's design choice will take up 20% and you end up losing another animal unless you can be clever and find a way to incorporate the other animal back in. The biggest issue is just to make it look nice and believable. That's just practice. Look at other people's animal combos and glean off of their work and their techniques. Doing this requires an intimate understanding of your animal, even down to their bone structure. For mine, it was the head and external features of the animal that made it different. In the end, it is of a seal skeleton with spines and a mountain lion skull.

Anyways. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask me and I'll do my best to help.

09camaro In reply to LeoPanthera [2012-01-06 07:35:09 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's ten animals now... I through in Godzilla from the movie that came out in 1999.

And for the most part, I have a tendency to take a look at those aspects mentally. I can piece them together like a terrible photoshop job. And then I work it out myself what looks good and what doesnt.

While at work tonight, I managed to gain some time to draw the skull that I wanted to use. And it looks awesome. It combines the Tyrannosaurus, Hippopotamus, Rhinoceros, and Gozdilla skulls, features two large saber teeth, as well as the Hippo's lower tusks (which are substantially shorter, and designed differently). I'm going to make it into a very shitty pixel and upload it here at some point. Then you can take a look at it for yourself. And for the remainder of the animal, I am going to simply take the pieces one at a time based off of how I want it to look. I'm debating putting a neck frill like the Triceratops in place of, or in addition to, the Lion's mane, of if I should just stick with the mane.

Things have been ok. A little slow, and very quiet. Which makes me sad. XD But all in all, pretty good. I still need a job, and haven't been having much success with that. Cameron has though, lucky guy! XD
I really miss hanging out with you, we've had lot of fun with D&D.
