hey, Lianne, Ron Norman here.....i submitted my latest drawing, "Grasshopper Child" to Graphite Gods and found it in the "intermediate 2" file...thought it deserved a better placement and said so to Carole Humphries, one of the newer admins...this began what would soon develop into a little war....(she had mentioned that she didn't like the little marks and specks in the background)....i told her that the marks and specks were put there by me on purpose, that they represent the holes and knife scars in the actual wall...she remained unmoved and said that the work would remain in that file, and that all future work that was like that would meet a similar fate...i mentioned my three pieces that are in the masters file, that they have been similarly "defaced"(her words, not mine)....she congratulated me on being in the masters category, and said that you and gary were perhaps more lenient than her.....sooo. looks like there's a new sheriff in town...i intend to keep my current works in the group, however, i don't feel safe in adding any more of my new work under these new conditions.....just thought you should know about this....i think i was one of the first hundred or so members to this group, and it remains my favorite on deviant art....i would ask you, if you will, to please look at the "offending" work on my profile page...it's called "Grasshopper Child".......thanks, lianne, and cheers

thanks for contacting me. I'm sorry it has taken a while to respond. I don't have the time to come on here as much as I used to at the moment due to work and an exhibition I am working on. Hence the new admins. Gary has gone MIA 
I have asked the new admins to look after the group in my absence and I have asked them to be very strict when rating artworks as we would like to keep the standard very high. Its the reason so many people love the group and the admins work extremely hard, especially Carole.
First of all I am very familiar with your artworks, it was I who initially chose for you to be in the masters folders and I feel you do need to be commended on your incredibly high standard. not all artworks are created equal however and we have to judge each piece on its individual merit. I have seen Grasshopper child and I think it is a fantastic homage to Salvador Dali (one of my favourite classic artists!) however I don't feel it is quite as good as some of your previous pieces, we really have to chose only the best of the best to go into Masters and most people will only end up with one or two of their best drawings in the folders even if the standard is extremely high in the artist's gallery. having to make judgements on artists work is one of the things I don't like about the group as who are we to say which level a group belongs in? art is subjective after all!! but if we didn't then the group wouldn't exist.
I have chosen my admins very wisely and carefully and I have to trust their judgment. we cant please everybody all the time. I recently asked permission from a photographer to paint his photograph, when I showed him the result he absolutely slated it... its not quite the same thing (as your artwork is by no means 'slateable') but it is the nature of the beast and we can only learn from these situations and grow.
I hope I have not offended you. Keep up the great work because you really are a terrific artist. I am looking forward to what you come up with next.

thanks for getting back to me, lianne....and thank you for the kind and thoughtful response....i thought my work rated something more than "intermediate"....i by no means think that all of my work should be in the master's folders...most of my griping was directed at an insulting, supercilious admin. who actually didn't even look at the work before insulting it....she then followed her scathing appraisal of my work with the remark that any similar work, that has been "defaced" (her words, not mine) with the holes, knife-cuts, etc., in the background walls of my still-lifes, will meet a similar fate, relegated to intermediate...now i know i have an enemy at graphite gods....one who does not care for my work, and certainly i am on her radar.....i am a part of deviantart because i love this community...i am in a few other graphite clubs, some of them coming up on graphite gods in quality...i will leave my earlier work in graphite gods, but feel that putting anymore recent stuff in will be an act of futility.....i would like to add that, yes, i am very proud of my ideas and my work, i have an ego like most human beings. and i defend my work vigorously....but i realize that i'm kinda "beating a dead horse" here........so i will stop......thank you again for getting back to me and keep up your excellent work...cheers to you......ron norman...i.m.normal...
