This idea isn't stolen. Yes, there are other groups out there who are making cranes for the sake of Japan, but as far as I know, they aren't able to raise any funds from it. That's why I wanted to start a project that actually sponsored the cranes-- so that we could send real tangible help to those who need it in Japan, rather than just our general goodwill.
If you really want to find the origin of the idea to make one thousand cranes, it goes way back to World War II times in Hiroshima -- and farther back than that, into Japanese legend and symbolism of the crane.
