# About me
Hello there! My name is Amber. Although I've been messing around with makeup for several years now, I've only recently in the past year or two been pulling my weigh and actively seeking to improve my craft. What you'll see from me isn't going to be normal makeup, it's just not my thing. 95% of my time, I am out in the world with a naked face, and I like it that way.I also sew, sculpt, and write. I'm currently in school, although don't ask me which major because I honestly haven't figured out what I'm going to do with myself and my life.
I'm young and I'm lost, but I'm in love with my art and I hope that some of you will take the time to view my work and take this journey with me as I improve myself and my craft.
Current Residence: North Carolina.

I take my name after the creature of mythology specifically. Manticores are one of my favorites(right alongside Dragons), so I just went with that, since it's not really a well known creature. :3

Manticore is a star kingdom in a series of books by David Weber--I'm sure he used the name of your creature for his kingdom.
I thought you might have been a fan of Weber-----Tks Gip

Hey, thanks for the fave on my t-shirt tutorial. I just want to warn you, and i need to fix this - don't use acrylics if you make it, they washed right out even though we heat-set the shirt. I'm going to try actual t-shirt paints when i try again, so i'll let you know how that works if you like?

Howdy! What area of game development are you leaning toward most? More toward programming, or the art side of it? I would assume the art (PS, 3DS) side, but it's safer to ask.

Hello!
I'm working toward owning a gaming studio more than anything. Pixel art is a dying artform, so I mostly do it for myself. I can also 3D model, while programming just seems to pass me by. However, because it is a large goal, I know that I'll need to wear quite a few hats within the company.
Also...you forgot designers...everyone forgets the poor guys.
XD

Designers? Like concept artists, or those who design levels, etc.? Having always been one to build first, then think about the concepts later, I frequently forget about concept artists lol.
Owning a studio isn't too lofty an idea, really, especially with the way things like XNA are set up.

Actually designers figure out gameplay mechanics. Programmers make everything work, and artists give everything a visual form, but designers lay out the backbone to every game. They do all the number crunching for NPCs, monsters, ect, as well as typically lead the game making process. XD
Sorry, it's a huge thing at my school for designers to be given proper credit. Mostly so kids won't believe that there's an "Idea Guy" who just sits there and makes worlds and stories for others to do all the hard work.

Hehe... they must have had that title somewhere along the line. Of the three companies I've worked for, we've not had the luxury of dedicated people for any department. We all have had multihats. Lead programmers being level designers, myself as 2D art lead being a level designer, modeler, and on a rare occasion programming troubleshooter ( I can read it, but can't write it. Sanskrit comes easier to me than any of the C languages lol). Even now, with Aeternus, we are all involved with each department. When I was pulled on board I replaced 6 people. Our latest programmer replaced 3 others... sometimes I think to his chagrin. We do have a dedicated concept artist and a story writer, but all of us are encouraged to give input anywhere we see possibilities for improvement, which really helps with the whole "fresh eyes" approach.
You will get a lot of (not trying to be mean here, just realistic) hubub about "how things must be". At the last college I attended they went on and on about how game docs must be at least 150 pages, if not 200+, in very specific formats, blah blah... turns out those instructors didn't have one minute experience in the industry. The first dozen game docs I witnessed a decade ago were scratched out in Notepad and had the games summed up in the first paragraph. This was done to save time for those of us making the content, which we appreciated lol.
That school also had PS instructors who knew nothing about game content. All of them were graphic designers... so they were churning out grads who didn't even know that the DXT format existed.
One company I worked briefly with, CNJ Studios, did actually have "an idea guy". He had spent years fleshing out the entire game before ever gathering people to develop it. Shame he set unrealistic deadlines and gave up when the first one wasn't met a year into the project. He had what could have been a contender for many triple A strategy titles out there.

A few of my teachers don't have triple A title industry experience, but they all have at least made a game. My primary instructor even interned at Riot Games over the summer. It's interesting to know that many colleges that teach game development can't find people with the experience to teach for it. Seems slightly silly.
I understand that schooling is one thing while actually surviving in the industry is another. Despite my programs faults, it's a good start in my opinion.
Don't post about idea guys! XD People might start thinking that they could do that. He must have been extraordinary, too bad he gave up. It's always sad to hear about those kind of brilliant people.

It isn't that they can't find them, it's that they can hire some noob graphic designer for far less money. My last year of school, they finally hired some actual game devs due to the fact they got audited when going for a different accreditation and the board was going to find out they only had 2 people on staff with any industry experience. They hired Matt Maher, Clark Morrisant and Matt Marquit (sp), all 3 are great asset creators. Of course, they fired 44 instructors and then offered them all adjunct positions for around half the pay. They never would have gotten into that position if they had kept the bean counters away from the recruitment department. They let over 4,000 students into the school who couldn't even spell their own names. A year later, the school was going under because of it... idiots.
Still, yeah if one has no experience then they will at least get something for their 70 grand. I got to teach my teachers. >:\ After I graduated, I applied for adjunct positions... 5 times over 6 months. The school never even replied, so yeah they don't want skilled people. They want people who will sit or roll over at their command for a bone or some table scraps.
They had Noe Sanchez, Marc Levy and the ones I mentioned above. Now all of those guys are gone and they have God knows who. For years they had second generation noobs. People who went to that school and learned from instructors with no experience, who then got jobs teaching there. One instructor (who was a second gen noob) was even telling his classes that they could lower their poly counts by selecting edges and hitting backspace... ugh.
And yes it is a shame about the "idea guy". A number of us tried to convince him to just take the project slower, but it was all in vain.
How far are you in your classes, and what do they have you doing?

A year, give or take. I'm currently taking Modeling Two with my favorite teacher. I've taken programming one, design one, and some general ed stuffs. I'm also currently taking a writing class with one of my instructors from the Simulation and Game Development department, but it isn't quite what I expected it to be.
I have a few more general eds to take, a couple electives, programming and design two, and the SGD Project class to take before I graduate and find a school to receive my bachelors.
