I would call it an imaginary sexual orientation founded on pop-psychology and pseudoscience.

Actual researchers have worked with those sexual orientations which fall between the polarities of "straight" and "gay" - there is no need for the term "pansexuality" unless one is sexually attracted to non-human lifeforms or objects... and that's not a valid sexual orientation, that's a psychological disorder.

There are those do not fall under the gender-binary system, like genderfluid people. The term bisexuality confines it to the two "standard" genders. It is at least slightly necessary.
