I saw some of your work today in a museum tour! You had some of my favorite pieces of the day, so I had to look you up

*super late reply*
Yes I was! It was part of a little 8-museum tour thing, and that stop was one of my favorites.

So, I love your work (obviously because I'm deviantwatching you ), and I tried to incorporate your style into a painting with some of mine recently. This was the result: [link]
It's a bit of a mess but was so much fun to paint and I just wanted to thank you for leading me to making it!
Can't wait to see more of your work in the future,
Jenny

I really like your style, what kind of acrylics and techniques do you use?

I use Golden (The regular heavy body, not the fluid or the open series) and Liquitex Heavy Body for the most of the large paintings and I have also used ink. The paints you should choose really depends on what you are interested in. My work is very thin, I do multiple layers of thinly applied color and I intentionally deny my brush stroke for the most part (The Dead Meat of Convention is one exception to this)because I am more interested in an emotional and color depth than physical texture. However when I look at your work, you seem to also be very interested in physical texture. Liquitex Heavy Body is great for building up a physical surface, it is thicker than golden paint is. Also try not to buy paints that are hues unless they are a color that you use very often, because those paints they water down with mediums and are very thin. Golden also makes molding pastes and gel mediums, but you have to be careful with these unless you intend for your work to be decorative.

I use golden, heavy body and fluid. I also use a lot of mediums / gels. I like the liquitex paints as well. I know a good bit about the diff acrylics, it's all I use. I was just interested in your style. And yes, the texture in my paintings is as important as the color. I work with a lot of layers (paint and texture), the paintings build, grow and change, almost like a living thing.

Sorry for going on about paint then, I never know how much experience people have with their media on here so I error on the side of caution and give too much info than not enough.
I don't work in a particular style or have any techniques or tricks, it is more a philosophy on painting and what I want from my work, at the risk of sounding like a pompous ass. The most I can tell you is I used to build up the surface through use of many layers of matte and gloss mediums mixed with pigment, but I didn't like how it would fog up over time. Now I work with water instead of mediums and it is more of a staining effect. I like the ability to work faster with water than having to wait on the medium to dry or risk pulling up the layer below. I think the different artists go about their processes is very personal and it is hard to explain with out being dull or coming off as arrogant.

No worries. I enjoy talking art and technique / philosophies. I agree though it is a bit uncomfortable being truly open about your processes and thought. I think some people tend to take it like you said, as pompous or arrogant. I think a lot people are threatened by a person who whole-heartedly believes in what they do and how they do it. It is a very personal thing, but it gives me incite into my own art and experience when I hear about other people's art.
Thanks for the chat, your art is beautiful and inspirational.

Hey Molly, first of all, CONGRATULATIONS I know you guys have been engaged for a while, but I never gave you guys a proper congrats lol. As far as UCF photographers, the only one I'm really aware of (and think is very professional) would be Trish Nuss. Shes a grad student right now, and I know Alicia Sager has been assisting her

I know shes photographed a few weddings, so Im sure shed love to do yours
If you have endless funds (which, I sure as hell dont lol) I'd recommend Mandy and Me

They cost a crap ton, but Im so in love with their stuff ^__^
What day are you guys getting married? If you need any help (free of charge) I'd love to help out

We are getting married May 22nd. I wish I had copious amounts of cash, but sadly that is not the case, thus the reason I am looking to hire a student in the hope that I won't have to spend $1500 on pictures Trish is a good call, I had a summer class with her, and she is really sweet and very professional, thank you for the tip The good thing is most of the wedding stuff is done, at least the tedious little things, now it is more business arrangements, but I really appreciate the offer of help.
It is funny to find you on deviant, I was kind of worried that it was a no no to post your work on something like this because I haven't found very many UCF people at all. So now I feel more relieved, though I am not gonna lie, I worry about my images getting jacked...

Yeah i always worry about that too, so I like to watermark all my favorite stuff and make sure none of it is available for download. Most fans are pretty cool and will give you a heads up when someone steals your work, I know that happened to David Smith on here

Thanks, the key with watercolor is to protect your whites. You want to know where your light is going to fall because once you paint a section, it will never be as white again, and believe me I have tried. Aside from that there are some tricks to it, but I just taught myself everything.
