Hi my name is Keith Carey I am a broke film student at Temple University in Philadelphia PA. I have been given the assignment to turn a 1 page script in a 2 page comic by my psychotic screenwriting professor. And if I canβt find someone I will fail the project. I saw your work on your page and think you are amazing, I especially dig Ultron very nice. Β I have the script written and ready to go. A quick idea about the concept, it is a dystopia where everyone above the age of 10 has died, and the story follows what unfolds when the world is left to 10 years old. Β I unfortunately canβt pay you a lot, but I will pay you something for your time. I hope you will consider helping me out, thank you and have a great night. Β You can contact me at tue91441@temple.edu

Hey man! I like your artistic style and I love your Marvel Lantern picks(Especially Greed, that was an original take. Never seen Mojo with that one)
are you available for commissions/requests?
π: 0 β©: 1
MrSinister616 In reply to NRGPreview [2014-04-02 23:04:37 +0000 UTC]
Thanks I wanted someone that was like Larfleeze, greedy and weird looking, and Mojo popped right into my head and as you said, he hadn't been done before.Β With so many greedy Marvel villains kicking and blasting for the ring I wanted a wild card to swoop in a take the prize.
I am available for commission work if you're interested, send me a note!
Thanks!

Hello, I'm an aspiring graphic artist looking for tips on putting together the graphic novel version of a book I wrote. Viewing your gallery has me to believe that you would know what you're talking about. The Dresden Files has been a favorite of mine for quite some time and you've captured it beautifully. Could you help me? Thank you for your time.
-R. Stewart.

I've read several illustrated books from graphic novels to manga, but what keeps me from starting my own is the condensing of the story into each frame. So yes getting strated would be a good basic to learn. I know the process such as drawing it out first before placing text.
π: 0 β©: 1
MrSinister616 In reply to Ds-Designs-on-DA [2014-01-27 21:56:07 +0000 UTC]
First off, you're not condensing the entire story into a single frame, you're telling you're story through multiple panels positioned in a way that make's the reader's eye flow through the page which in turn allows the reader to flow through the book with each page.Β From just the sound of the previous message and with all due respect, it sounds to me like you're trying to tell your story through that one panel, and that's not what you should be doing.
Each panel should help you tell the reader a story, true, but the story of the moment not the over-all story (if that helps explain it).Β In the moment you're trying to convey to the reader ask what are you trying to show in this moment.Β Excitement, love, horror, even if a character is giving information to others in the group, the questions that you should be asking is "how to picture this moment", "what is the emphasis?".Β How you want to show that is up to you but it should be dramatic and engaging to the reader, using the previous example of a character conveying information, I would start by knowing what the character is talking about like if they're talking about going to a location on a map, I would show the character addressing the group next to a map making the audience part of the group as well by showing the character conveying the information looking at the reader. The type of story matters too, if it were Mr Fantastic relaying the information I would have him next to a holographic projection at a dramatic angle or as previously stated, if he's giving information on the map show him talking directly to you, the reader.Β If it were pirates on a ship, I would have the captain on deck, pointing his sword at a place on a parchment map resting on a create, where they need to go to in a dramatic stance, his free arm in the air, with a silhouette of his crew around him.
You've seen the Dresden Files stuff I got up, The one scene from Death Mask (mrsinister616.deviantart.com/a⦠I took my cues right from the book, the emphasis wasn't on Harry, it was on Micheal mostly and Sanya secondly, there swords shining. It doesn't say how they were standing or where, that was left up to the reader to imagination. I wanted to show emphasis on Michael, because that's the character's know more about and care about more, standing in defiance against his enemy. So he ended up in a defensive stance which is dramatic but with his sword's glow blinding Harry in the background made it even more dramatic. The next image shows Nicodemus, drawn out as I saw from the description given, in a stance that to me conveyed a "man" prepared and confident at the very least for the attack coming at him. Making it more dramatic was the monster shadow at his back and going one step further I made them look stronger and more threatening, giving the reader the impression that the heroes we in over their heads which makes the heroes win over a superior adversary that much more rewarding to the reader. Everything else is explained in the text, they're on a train moving fast in a wooded area at night, so you show the train moving fast with speed lines, black out some of the sky with cross hatching and show trees receding into darkness the more you go down them again using cross hatching to show a gradient.
A good exercise it doing preciously what I did, take a scene from one of your favorite books and draw it out asking yourself what do I need to show and emphasis on in the scene to help tell the story.
Hope this helps get you started.Β Not sure if I explained it all that well but if you have more question or need clarification let me know...

DarthYan In reply to MrSinister616 [2011-11-15 06:18:44 +0000 UTC]
It's surprising how little you see of her considering she's one of the antagonists who most damaged harry (yes her plans were thwarted but harry had to damn himself forever in order to stop her and the consequences of his choices stem from her.) Arianna was a monster of the worse kind.
π: 0 β©: 0
DarthYan In reply to MrSinister616 [2011-09-27 02:14:08 +0000 UTC]
how long? anyway I felt the second best part was when harry kicked the crap out of her. the best is when he took down the red king. Both were psychotic monsters who suffered well deserved fates.

MrSinister616 In reply to DarthYan [2011-11-15 16:21:53 +0000 UTC]
True, but now that I think about it I don't think I will get her in this one. The one I'm working on is dealing with reoccurring villains, though she does deal a big blow to Harry, she's pretty much a one-shot.
