How is it going with art and trees and everything?

Its going well thanks, a bit caught up with study at the moment but I have been trying to get some art done. I do have the problem of never being satisfied with what I create- then continuously redoing things until finishing the artwork becomes arduous, but I guess that's just inexperience. I did try that tutorial you made and had some success with that, thanks for that. I hope things are going well for you too

It's alright here. A bit slower than I would wish, but that's how it is.

I think you should upload whatever you make, even if you aren't satisfied with it. After a while it will be a timeline of your work where you can see your progress.

I hope you have got yourself a drawing tablet. Without it, digital art is no fun at all. Unless you are doing vector or 3D graphics.

Definitely working on it, what tablet would you recommend? The choice is a bit overwhelming.

Anything is better than drawing with a mouse.

As far as I know, Wacom tablets still have superior precision and are still the only ones that use the induction technology to power the pen (no battery in the pen) even though the patents expired three years ago.

The smallest you should get is two or three times the size of your palm. If you are really serious about drawing and painting, you should start drawing from your shoulder and not the wrist. At least the books on drawing tell you so.
That means large gestures, so you will need a large tablet.

If you can afford it, you can get a Cintiq. I want one. But you will get used to looking at the screen and not at your hands while drawing. I thought that I wouldn't, but after a few weeks that wasn't a problem.

Something that is tricky with that is drawing straight and parallell lines. Normally you would rotate the paper to an angle where that is easy, but if you rotate the tablet so that it isn't parallell with your screen you lose all sense of direction. It's like riding a bike with crossed arms.

Some programs can rotate the work area instead, but personally I would prefer having a screen tablet and rotate that.

Tablets (at least Wacom) seems to last forever, so you can buy a used one and be quite safe in that it will work fine.
I have an Intuos 3 and I have even used the same nib on the pen for four years. The surface has become scratched by careless handling, but it is also a replaceable part.

I'm not sure how good older Wacoms are, but the ones made the last five or six years should be fine.

I chose Intuos over Bamboo with the mindset "Better safe than sorry". In hindsight I probably wouldn't have noticed the difference.

Thanks for that, i did a bit of research and it sounds like im going to go for a new bamboo or a second hand intuos. I have another question, does your screen size matter? I have a 24" and i feel like it could be awkward relating a smaller tablet to a larger screen.

Not really, unless it's really small so that the cursor zips over the screen at the slightest movement.
