What do you use to edit sprites and what are you using to animate sprites with background? Is it GIMP?

Same old gimp.
ye, i move everything frame by frame.
If i will get big interest in my way of animating i might make guide.
Gintoki vs Sonic took more time to animate than others.

Where do you get your sprites?

I haven't downloaded a single sprite sheet, maybe I'll credit you if I finish a animation or a gif image.

Google.
use this way:
"character name" sprites.
example: Shadow The Hedgehog Sprites.
or
Megaman X Zero Sprites.

How to you remove those colored background in a sprite, how do you remove it.. it'll look silly...

Turn on alpha-channel on layer
Select background by color and remove it.
