Persona 5 really focused Japan’s society being very judgmental. If you think it’s bad for for a former crook in America, Japan is a different level. Let’s not forget the game does tell us Sae already doesn’t like how she looked down upon already for being a woman in the justice department.

Also, let’s not forget Makoto self confidence/worth issues come from trying to making Saw proud of her.

Yeah Makoto is trying to keep that image because if she didn’t it reflects badly on Sae. Thus, why Makoto dating a criminal would be bad. And where the joke came from because Sae wouldn’t approve of the relationship
