First off, I love your gallery.
And I'm also a college sophomore majoring in music! (Clarinet and some piano...I had a fun time learning flute hehe).
It's nice to find another music major on dA ::

Thank you very much I haven't had a chance to check through your gallery yet, but I plan to, haha!
It is great to find other music majors! Clarinet is a pretty cool instrument. I actually had a lot of fun learning it (something I didn't really expect) So are you education or performance or something else?

Shotgun-Opera426 In reply to Philestino [2009-12-22 05:32:21 +0000 UTC]
I'm education. It's rough, but I couldn't see doing anything else with my life.
Some of my musician friends didn't exactly have the most fun with clarinet. I ended up being everyone's tutor, unless it was broken. I still can't repair my own instrument very well O_o
Where do you go to school, if you don't mind my asking?

Awesome. Yeah, I know what you mean about not being able to want to do anything else.
Ha, yeah, I had my difficulties as well, but it wasn't too terrible for me. I don't think I could repair my flute at all, I'd be too worried that I would mess something else up with it, haha!
Well, as long as you won't creep on me, (ha!) I go to the University of Arkansas. Yeppers. Mind if I ask you the same question?

Don't worry, I'm not nearly close enough to creep on you! I go to Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania. It's a teeny little private school up on top of a hill (hence the name). However we did get a fantastic new performing arts center, aka the music major dorm XP

You would think. But people never do smart things now do they?
I love that my school is tiny. In the music department, all of the professors not only know your name, but they know who your friends are, how you do in classes, and certain life events. They are always there to help, and it's fantastic.
This is our main campus: [link]

Hmm, I haven't heard of it, but that sounds pretty cool.
Ha, the music major dorm! Awesome.
Our fine arts building is old. It pretty much looks the same as it did back when it was fixed up in the '70s, haha!

I didn't think you would have heard of it. It's a tiny school of about 2000 students, around 100 of those being music majors. It has a bit more notoriety locally and the music program is growing.
The main building looks like Hogwarts, and our old department was there. Everything seemed from the 70's as well! The heat was either too hot or too cold, and the walls had holes in them.

Wow, that is a tiny school! I think there's about 18000 at my school.
Oh, wow a main building that looks like Hogwarts? That is awesome! Ha, our walls don't have holes in them, but they're so thin that you can pretty much hear other people practicing when you're in a practice room. You'd think a music department would be a bit more sound-proof, haha!

I'm really liking your gallery. And I was wondering, what are some of the music classes that you're taking in college? Curious because I hope to go to college for the same thing.

Well, thank you
Yay, another (hopefully ) music major! Music-wise, I'm taking music theory and aural perception (4 semesters of each of those), piano (4 semesters total of this too), music Technology (that teaches us how to use programs like Finale) and since I'm an education major, I'm also taking classes in instruction of all the instruments. I'm also in the flute studio and technique class, and take private lessons once a week.
Then there are the basic math, science, english, history classes.
So yeah, I hope that gives you an idea. If you ever have any questions about it feel free to message me! I'd be more than happy to help

Thank you so much for the insight! At my scool, music theory is divided into two years. I'm a junior right now and taking Music Theory 1. Senior year I'll take MT2. (: Oh, I'd love to take classes that teach you all instruments! I've been playing flute since 4th grade, and started learning keyboard and acoustic guitar about a year ago. ^^
Ahaha, I can assure you that I will indeed have many, many questions. xD You'll be sorry you offerred! >:]

You're welcome.
In my high school music theory was an AP class, and it was only one year. It didn't get me out of any real theory classes, but it did get me out of "basic musicianship" which was like an intro to theory type class. The instrument classes are way fun, but they take a lot of time. Like, I have to spend time practicing them, in addition to practicing my flute. And I was absolutely horrible at the high brass class. Glad I got that over with, haha!
Wow, you've been playing a long time! I didn't start until 7th grade (that's when band is first offered here), and I didn't have any piano experience until I took piano 1 two semesters ago.
Haha, don't worry, I love helping people and answering questions, so ask away!
