Firstly, I'd like to say that I LOVE your work! The detail you put into it is simply astounding! I often page through your gallery just to remind myself of everything you've done and I could've sworn you had some kind of concept art of the WoW elves but with a more African facial structure. Am I going crazy or did you just remove it from the site? If so it's a shame because I really loved the idea of that

I did a while ago, but probably deleted it with a bunch of others. Sorry to say, I'm slowly deleting my WoW stuff.
Before I put the rest into storage, I'll be sure to make a journal about it a week in advance.

That's a shame, I did love your take in the various azerothian races. Since I love the idea of more african-looking elves, do you have any idea what stock photos you may have used? Which ethnicities have such fine and graceful features?

The majority of the time, I base my stuff off of people I've seen when I'm out and about, or photos that have caught my eye.
My best advice for you is to start general, and get specific. For example: 'What region of the world do you want your character to come from, or where are their parents from?' Once you know, then you can ask,' what country?' After that, it's easy to search photos up. However, try not to get stuck on a single photo; look up tonnes and tonnes of photos until you can't stand it anymore so you have a good variety to draw from.
Even when you're not consciously creating a character design, just keep your eyes open and observe the people around you.

I dare to ask if you are influenced by W.D. Barlowe? Your artwork is amazing and the use of what looks like bio-lights on some of your creatures makes me think of his design work from Expedition.

I am very, very influenced by him, though the idea of bioluminescence was one I plucked straight from nature after seeing a documentary about the deep sea, around the time I was 11. From that point on, I've been enthralled by the critters and landscapes of the deep.
I found out about his art a little while after that, I think when I was 13 or 14, while browsing the local library. His stuff is pure inspiration-fuel.
I've always had ideas for 'deep-sea' creatures, but his art is what motivated me to get down to work and actually do some stuff.
