Yes, Johnny Cash DOES count as country.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Raggedy-Cursie In reply to Sandtrap [2011-10-27 01:24:36 +0000 UTC]

but it's different. it doesn't matter about it's technical definition, johnny cash moves me in a way other country doesn't

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sandtrap In reply to Raggedy-Cursie [2011-10-27 01:34:17 +0000 UTC]

No, it's musically the same. Do you even know what real country music sounds like? None of this modern crap. That's not real country music.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Raggedy-Cursie In reply to Sandtrap [2011-10-27 01:40:22 +0000 UTC]

well that's the most generally recognized country. I've heard country from the 50's and 60's I rather like, but you're splitting hairs, I was stating as in my opinion. johnny cash I find moving, I consider things that move me to be in a classification all their own, ergo johnny cash does not in anyway shape or form represent country in MY mind. you may think it to be stupid or incorrect, but totally up to you as its YOUR opinion

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sandtrap In reply to Raggedy-Cursie [2011-10-27 01:48:44 +0000 UTC]

You can't simply say "That's not X genre just because it moves me", that's not how genre works.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Raggedy-Cursie In reply to Sandtrap [2011-10-27 01:56:17 +0000 UTC]

ahaha I think that's what I just did. I recognized him to fall under that genre, but as an exception, under my own classification he does not fall in with the rest. personally I don't understand your fixation on this, it's a minor detail and a matter of opinion so any points are erroneous by default. theres no true way to dispute personal opinion, because each is convinced theirs is truth.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sandtrap In reply to Raggedy-Cursie [2011-10-27 01:58:53 +0000 UTC]

You can't just say "Anything but country" and then throw in an exception.

Clearly, you have a favorite. You can't like all but one genre equally.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Raggedy-Cursie In reply to Sandtrap [2011-10-27 02:06:15 +0000 UTC]

you're stating hard negatives to everything I say while not making any real points. the definition of an exception is an instance or case not conforming to the general rule, so yes that's exactly what I can do and did. I go through moods, I've been listening to maiden and white zombie since I was 2, but I love everything, I'm just open minded. I'd even be open to country if I ever started to like it.

Sandtrap In reply to Raggedy-Cursie [2011-10-27 02:11:35 +0000 UTC]

Listening to something doesn't make it your favorite. I listen to a lot of punk, and a lot of musical tunes.

Are those my favorites? No.

My point is, you cannot say "I'm open to anything" and call "Everything, but..." a favorite. That's not how favorites work. Either you don't have one, or you have JUST one. It's required by the definition to be the one you prefer, hence "FAVOR"ite.

Raggedy-Cursie In reply to Sandtrap [2011-10-27 02:19:37 +0000 UTC]

well my FAVORITE changes every couple of weeks, so seeing as I have neither the time nor desire to be constantly changing it and theres not enough room to list all the bands/artists I like. so I made a very short simple to the point statement. I enjoy most music, but I'm not fond of country

Sandtrap In reply to Raggedy-Cursie [2011-10-27 02:20:56 +0000 UTC]

Oh really? Who's your favorite ska band?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Raggedy-Cursie In reply to Sandtrap [2011-10-27 02:30:13 +0000 UTC]

not gonna lie, haven't done enough listening to ska to have any particularly strong feelings on it. there are a couple local bands around here that play ska that I like but not really anything that well known. I just haven't been exposed to much but I've liked what I've heard

lol so ska is your music of choice then?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sandtrap In reply to Raggedy-Cursie [2011-10-27 04:40:41 +0000 UTC]

Nope. Just on a ska binge. I don't play favorites with music, because of how specific the word is.

sounds like me. I've been on a rap binge, I've learned to freestyle fairly well. whenever I like something I want to learn how to do it

Nice. Listen to Kanye's new CD yet?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Raggedy-Cursie In reply to Sandtrap [2011-10-27 04:59:42 +0000 UTC]

eh no, not that in to kanye. I'm more a wu tang or hopsin type girl and I love kreashawn, her rhymes are pretty clever. artists like kanye are fun to dance to, but from a listening stand point they tend to bore me a bit

hm I'll check it out. I like underground music a lot though, theres something so pure about it before it gets cookie cuttered so it suits a wider audience

Also, Zechs Marquise.

I suppose you could TECHNICALLY say I favor Progressive, but that's less a genre and more a lifestyle choice, musically. And besides which, it makes me feel like a hipster.

The thing that usually depresses me about hip-hop is the fact that they either use drum machines, or the drummer doesn't get any credit for literally giving the song it's life.

Of course, Hopsin is writing insane conspiracy theories into his music, so he gets points off for that. He's got talent, though.

The mainstream is not completely immune to amazing, progressive things. You just have to be ALREADY rich to get them out there.

Rapping... over Radiohead? Oh, god.

Nothing more beautiful.

I just hate the entire commercial music scene. To pretend that Rap is the only part of it that's dead is a joke. All pop/mainstream music is garbage nowadays.

Raggedy-Cursie In reply to Sandtrap [2011-10-27 07:39:34 +0000 UTC]

gotta agree with you there. most of it's only worthy to dance to in my opinion, in the heat of that moment it's good, but I can't sit and listen to it. what bothers me is most rappers forget that r.a.p. stands for rhythm and poetry, instead use it as a ego stroke. most music is verbal masturbation, it's fun, but ultimately pointless.
not rap, but amazing, omega is SO underrated
