After thinking it over, I remembered What I did with all of my regular Sculpey and clay that basically became wasted. I used it all to fill in a new sculpture, between
the stainless steel armature...
That way it's much cheaper to use and it keeps you from your piece being an amplifier. It helps make it a solid piece. Also, if I havent told you yet, I use a heat gun that reached 300 degrees F for any intricate pieces you may create. Just practice with so you dont burn your piece, that's a real bummer when that happens. It , too,may take a while to fire it that way but it keeps any very fine things, such as hair, scales, or anything truly fine in size...........jack

Regular sculpey I believe is a bit too soft. Although it is easier to knead, the end result after firing it is a little too weak. Plus you'll have to paint it with acryllics and that gets old after a while. Sculpey 3 is also really easy to knead, but it is way too weak after firing it. It will crack and you will have a lot of trouble with stress fractures (no fun to try and repair....jack

I think regular Sculpey is ok for easier pieces, but i feel Premo is hest overall. As for wood and foil, foil is ok again, for easy pieces but it wont hold much weight. I think wood would burn bit. You just hav to experiment with what you are creating and see what works for you..........have fun! jss

To make your sculpture even stronger, I mix in a little Sculpey Tranlusent Premo. It doesnt affect the color, but for some reason it can strengthen the clay. I use it a lot....just another tip. I also use stainless steel tubing of different sizes for all of my armatures. Just take a piece of the tubing and hammer it flat on the ends and then drill and bolt and nut it together. Then if you want it to be ultra strong (forever) epoxy all nuts bolts to keep them tight again, Ali, good luck and dont worry about how much work is left to do, but instead admire what you have already accomplished that day and patience becomes a moot point
and yes, I am going to be writing a book on Polymer Sculpting, truly, I am........these are just a few tips on the progresion of poymer sculpting.......again, good luck and keep praticing and practicing and eventually you'll get to be pleased with your work....jack

Thanks for all the tips, Jack. I'm curious, does regular sculpey work just as well as premo? i have some colors left over and I'm curious if they'll have the same sculpting ability. Also, if i were to make an armature out of foil, wire, and wood, for example, would it be safe to fire in my oven?

I'm afraid I don't know anything about Das. But using the hair dryer works really well. Sculpey is very sensitive to heat, therefore it only takes a short time to warm it a bit, good luck, if you need more help, I'm here almost every day, and have been woking with Sculpey products sinve 1997, so dont be afraid to ask away.....jss

Alright. I'm thinking it's going to turn into an armature amplifier. I'm going to try it maybe this weekend, work overload lately. Guess that's what sickness does to schoolwork.
