Tag a quality deviant, You’re it! Quality doesn’t mean that you have a lot of followers, or a lot of messages. It means that you’re nice to other people, and you deserve to be happy. If you get this message, someone is telling you that they love you as you are, and they don’t care how much followers you have. Send this to 10 deviants who deserve it. If you break the chain, nothing will happen. But it’s just good to let someone know that you love them! ♥

if you are comfortable with text, please read below:
traditional: it depends on what art I do. If its just a sketchy sketchy that I dont really care about finesse, then I block out the shapes via pencil and then go on it via multiliners, white gel pen etc.
Ex for such an output:
if im going all out on the drawing, then I first draw a sketch of the piece via pencils, VERY lightly. i take care bout proportions as its something that defines anything we draw. After this, I outline (for manga art) with pen, neatly. For realism, i make a "clean" lineart on another paper from the sketch as a base. Now I use pencils and shade the artwork neatly, keeping the lighting from the reference in mind.
Ex of such an output:
Manga: Realism (note I show you the WIPs so you can understand better)
3D Drawing: A little tough to explain, i think it suffices if I say that I use optical illusion of perspective to counterposition the proportions of the drawing, distorted such that the viewers can see the drawing in 3D, IF and only IF looked through a lens, at the right viewpoint.
Here you can see a sketch which I will refine to make more and more adjustments:
And here you can see a 3D Drawing from the top, just so you know what it looks like distorted (and convince everyone that im not cheating, this is 100 percent drawing )
Digital Art: Here are a couple of videos that show how I do my digital works. I work with referenced stuff, cause I have no time on my hands and I am still learning to observe and implement ^_^ But i always add a little spin to the artwork taht makes it my creation ^_^
My OLD method which involved LINEART and then COLORING.
Im still learning however, so the method I use may not be the most optimal one but it works for me!
Thanks for reading xD and sorry for such a long comment! Peace ^_^

No need to be sorry for anything, lad, this is amazing! I never expected even 5% of such an answer!
. What I was actually asking about was not the way you draw etc, although I AM very very very grateful for that, as it provides much insight, but the system you use in drawing human figures. That is, the undersketch, skeleton so to say and how you "flesh it up", because I seem to have a problem with that, and I was really struck by the quality of your proportions, space placement etc. If I watch an already existing manga picture, ofc I can duplicate it. That's much easier.
. As far as digital goes.. I have a tablet, but I don't use it, cause I want to get good enough on paper and only then do that, because I think I may begin doing it all by tablet and that is something I don't want to do. I mainly use pencil, Chinese ink and hard mineral inks. I am very traditional in that respect, although sometimes the quality suffers.
A Side Note: You might be still learning, laddie, but, let me tell you, YOU ARE REALLY GOOD! And I know how tough this can be since I draw too.
Greetings! ^^

actually, i feel you. I have great trouble with proportions, hence most of my work is referenced on something that already exists. I have been practicing anatomy and foreshortening for almost a year now but still have ways to go in that area but its as they say, observation is the key. "Fleshing" it out neednt necessarily involve putting up a skeleton. I just draw basic shapes, or blocks which does a splendid work of giving me an idea of putting together the parts of the compostiion. Learn by observing. Space placement, is practice... If you want to study manga (like i have been doing) then take Masashi Kishimoto's works. They are almost realistic (almost 8 head avg human) but still he achieves that manga look via his lines and features. And not to mention, every character is different. You cant put a same body for Anko and Tsunade, if you know what i mean
I think I may begin doing it all by tablet and that is something I don't want to do: Ah well.... i think digital art has its perks, and you can do a same artwork digitally ten times faster, considering all the tools and techniques avaiable, but let me tell you, it all depends on your mindset. Considering what you stated, i think you never know! hehe, maybe suddenly youll be fascinated with digital
So yeah, thanks for all the support, but Im gonna stick with learning and practicing anatomy on the sidelines, while developing my reproduction and observation skills and presenting my progress ^_^
Cheers!

Hehe, so do I although I got much better - I seem to have alternating periods of watch-drawing existing things and when I get bored with that go again back to original things. Hmm... I've never tried the blocks-system, I usually favor bone structure, because it helps me locate and position the muscles, though I seem to have an ENORMOUS problem with heads...
Now I'm trying to construct a base-dummy in my mind's eye so I can do whatever I want, but I agree that it ain't easy...
Oh, I know, Kishi's a genius! I just haven't had the right mood to redraw him these past months.
About Tsunade: You, sir, are 100% right.
Everybody has their own path, no need to change anything, some friendly discussion I think is always beneficial. ^^
Cheerio.

aadisart In reply to Rangakusha [2013-08-19 14:04:47 +0000 UTC]
heads are vital. I always take head ratios. They can almost never go wrong. I think practice is all you need in that area. Constructing a dummy from mind's eye can be tricky without guesture drawing experience, so I recommend life sketching ONLY the poses everyday, spending 20 poses a day. And you start with boring normal stuff, like someone sitting, reading a book etc, but as you begin to understand the way the body "flows", it will be time for more dynamic poses. You can always look for dynamic pose references in deviantART, They are aplenty and for artists like us who are willing to go deeper into the world of anatomy.
I have 3D modeling software, which was used to model an average female. Then she was rigged (meaning, supplied bones and skin definition) by me, and now I can use the blocky model for perfect reference for my female poses.
something which i made in Dec, but you get the point. gesture drawing helps loads Peace.

Thanks, lad that IS of great help. (Just a side note, but these are amazing!) I too know about the flowing I;m trying out some new stuff, but I suppose you're right - only "practice makes perfect". I'm currently trying the Block-system and it seems to work quite well - I'l see where I'll get with that.
Thank you very much for the support and the answers.
