Art directors are between writers and artists so writers don't get all pissy at artists.
The art director directs the artist based on market trends and stuff.
If he can't trust you, you're never gonna get anywhere. If he hired you 'cause he liked your stuff, he's needs to trust you can do it.
(I also think he looks younger in the top picture than the bottom.)

Thanks for your honesty, now that I'm with my head cooled down I have seriously pondered about it.
I think I really need a director, or someone more experienced than me to give directions and
chastise me with good arguments, experienced argument. My writer hasn't hired me, we are in this togheter,
and since we have an emotional relationship, everything he says can hurt me easily.
Oh, about the age of the character... Yes, I will try a little bit to make him just a bit older, though not much because I don't want him looking at his early thirties.

Maybe just get someone who's a little more neutral about it. You don't have to get someone super professional. Emotions are tough to work with and that's why some people refuse to work with family or friends.
Doing the character at ALL ages would be a good exercise to help you with his design. Research how people age, pick 6 to 10 different ages and draw all of them. Do some fiddling.
