# About me
...My artwork is about making connections between the chaos of our modern lives and the wildness of the ancient world that underlies our unique human consciousness. Western society tends to forget the deep connection our ancestors felt with the earth where they lived. Many social institutions still operate around the priorities of the past, which can damage the people depending on these structures and the environment in which they live. In an increasingly global society where opportunities are expanding and boundaries shifting, how can we connect meaningfully with our past to positively influence our future?
The artistic movement I feel most akin to is abstract expressionism. Although my art draws on many more solid shapes, I feel that through the use of cartoons and dream imagery I can abstract the viewer from their own subjective view of the world. Are monsters only frightening to children, or do the problems of the real world also take on monstrous shape? there is a monster in most everyone, only waiting to come out. Our society is obsessed with transformation into monsters, grotesque appearances and actions in general. I feel special attachment to the work of de Kooning, whose female figures are famously and hideously transformed.
