# About me
Art is my balance. It never leaves, always can count on it, and screams freedom. Some might say freedom is perspective. Me expressing myself in anyway I please at any given time is my freedom. This has always made me an outcast. Never fitting into any clique. Not even artists. Different is always scary and the unknown even scarier. I live on the borderlines of different and rush into the unknown. Extreme to docile and Creation from destruction.

Not much, still adjusting to new work hours, a complete flip of what I'm used to. I can't seem to find the will to start any new projects rite now. A serious lack of motivation, I'm planning on starting a new sculpture, but I'm having difficulty in deciding what to do next. I keep looking at older pieces and wanting to change them, I also have several projects I stopped working on for one reason or another.
Congratulation on the new babe!!!

It's tough finding that motivation. I find love makes me go forward, determination not to give up, the will to refute the temptation of letting life suck the beauty out of me that is art. It's also hope.
I also had to get a different job with late work hours. But I won't let that stop me. The entire day I am listening to business and motivational speakers. I find my temperament can get old fast. My inner dialogue needs to change, a great way is to replace it with someone else's points of view.
I hope you get back into a good sculpture. Maybe just make something small and fun. A piece just for yourself.

Last night I dug out a really old sculpture, my first real attempt, that had shattered into a hundred pieces because my wife carelessly thru something on top of it. I kept it so long because it was actually pretty good, and I was quite proud of it at the time and thought that I might someday try to fix it. I also think it's the reason I didn't try sculpting again for a long time. I started gluing pieces back together and think it can be salvaged. I'll have to make a new base and fabricate some missing parts, but hopefully I can jump the rut I seem to have been stuck in. Thanks for the words of encouragement! I'll keep you posted.Β

Ouch, all the hard work that has shattered. Def kneel me posted. Art is life for us. Our air, our soul.

I thought monster clay was a heat sensitive reusable clay, and while good at holding detail was not suitable for a permanent sculpture. I have been wanting to try it, but assumed I would have to make a mold and cast it, in order to have a piece to paint and display.

Haha, yea you are correct. I meant to say super sculpy.

Ok thanks, I wasn't sure if there was a technique to preserve it. Have you tried cooking sculpy with a blow dryer, it seems to me that it would be difficult to get an even cure. I have found super sculpy to be quite brittle when spread too thin, and the thicker you make it the harder it would be to cook.

Hi,
Β Β I agree, Super Sculpy is brittle when spread to thin and also just not all that strong. I first have to complete applying the cold porcelain for the bigger details. Then when that's done drying. I will use a thin layer of super sculpy. Not as a reinforcement. It's not going to have to handle any kind of applied pressure. The dryer I bought goes up to 1500 F. It's used to dry paint, got it from Lowe's. Has a digital LCD Screen that will allow me to adjust the heat. I used it today to dry the cold porcelain clay. It worked great actually. Not to dry it completely, but to allow it to dry hard enough so it doesn't droop from applying thicker layers. (cold porcelain, ey, very cumbersome material) If I had the space and money I would do things totally different, but alas I have to work with what I got.Β
Β Β Back to the super sculpy. The theory I have is, apply thin small layers. Make the details I need, then dry each section closely watching what happens. Study the physical properties of the material. If this works. I will do this over the entire body. (why use super sculpey? Cold porcelain is a pain to get accurate detail. As it drys, detail is dramatically lost)Β
Β Β On completion of applying the Super Sculpy. I will then paint with acrylics paints and apply a heavy duty resin that will further assist in the support of the whole project.Β
Cheers,
Adam

I look forward to seeing how it turns out! I think I am going to use Epoxy Sculpt, or Magic Sculpt, for the finer details on my next large project. The paper clay I used last time worked pretty well as far a strength and was still somewhat flexable, but was not as good for holding detail.
I think your last whale sculptures turned out pretty awesome!!

I watched you Youtube videos, and while your pictures on DA are impressive, you can see so much more detail on the videos. I was thinking about making some myself someday, how was your experiance?

Right on! I really should put up a professionally edited vid of the dragon. It's still isn't %100 done due to the fact I still need to put $600 into it. My experience with cold porcelain in the beginning was frustrating. The clay has many limitations, but the reason I work with it is cost effective and I don't have to rely on a service to get me my clay when I need it. Patience is another factor. It takes weeks for thicker chunks to fully harden. Even at its hardest state, the clay can still slowly bend with pressure like hard candy. It's hard to obtain accurate detail since the clay shrinks about %33 of its original application. So everything I make has to be %33 bigger. Also, it's brittle, especially with spikes. I brake a lot of my work by accident being a bigger man that's kinda rough.. Haha If you love a challenge then cold porcelain is s good medium to use.

Alas, money is forever a problem! I don't know if I have enough patience, a lot of my very time consuming projects end up getting put to the side. I have several waiting in the wings now. I hope to someday get back to them, but I always seem to move on to even more projects.

I can relate. The excitement of starting a new project is always an alluring when other project are still in process. I try to complete projects, but without proper motivation is challenging. Money is a good motivator to complete a project though. Will be starting an 18' metal sculpture commissioned by the Ski Hall of Fame. All my other project or even the idea to start anything new will be put on hold for 5 months.Β

Haha, no experience.. Quick learner though so I am not worried. I've been thrown into big project before and figured things out.

Hey, thanks for watching. I was checking out your BalDron sculpture, it is fantastic. I can't wait to see it completed. It is amazingly complex, It's hard to believe your doing this all with porcelainΒ clay. I've tried using it myself, and knowΒ how fragile it is to work with, it's discouraging. Keep plowing on, it will look great!

Yes, I try not to sneeze to much or jerk at wrong moment. Though I have messed with the formula after 120 batches and found how to tweak its properties. In the beginning, tough. Now, eh, only sorta tough, but still fragile. I hope you do some more sculptures!!
