I just wanted to share a little fail that happened today.
I went to a fair, and they were selling books at a stall. One caught my attention, being an English-Dutch dictionary. So I bought it and was content. When I reach home, my dad looks at it and then tells me: "That's not Dutch, this is German." Then I look at it, and it did say "Deutsch", but it didn't click that that meant German.. in German! xDD
I wanted to try and learn a bit of it, because my dad could understand it pretty well as well as Dutch and stuff. Maybe this is a good start. ;3

Haha, yeah that's definitely tricky! When I learned English at school, some pupils were always confused about "Dutch" and "German", since Dutch sounds and looks so similar to "Deutsch"
I think you are not the only one who mixed it up
Funny about Dutch is that Germans can understand the language a bit, since it sounds a bit similar. You can sometimes even understand it when you read Dutch texts. The same with Danish (although there are only single words that sound or look similar).
Being a German, I think Dutch sounds and looks really funny

I've heard Dutch somewhere, and I feel the same lol! But it's the same for anyone who doesn't speak English. Some people don't realize it sometimes lol.
So I guess if I learn German, I might get Dutch down twice as fast! xD
But it shouldn't be so bad, because they are all in the same family and they share some similarities. I guess I could work on it somehow by myself, because I know for sure, no one speaks German here. Still, it was very strange to find that book, and German of all languages too. And it turns out that the dictionary itself is really for Germans learning English. I got some work ahead of me. =3
