Sorry I've been MIA I'm doing great. The reason I haven't posted anything lately is because I moved from California to Texas. I have a new job that takes up alot of my time. Thanks for your concern

I've been okay. I am in school so I can't draw as much as I would like to as well. Recently, I've been thinking about getting in Watercolors but I get scared when I use them because I feel like I am not going to use them right and mess up the image. I had one art teacher that told me every time I use watercolors, to use more water. For some reason, I could not color anything to her liking.

That's awesome that you want to try new mediums! You shouldn't be scared, go for it. I knop I've tried so many mediums and thats how I've found out what I like and what I'm good with.What I did to get over my fear of ruining my drawing was purchase a light box and used it to trace my original drawing onto a new sheet of paper, that way if I did mess it up I still had the original. Or you can even scan the pic and make copies to color.
You're always going to have those teachers or people that want you to conform to what they think is the right way to do it. But the thing with art there are no rules, there is no right or wrong way. I've always had to deal with critques of my work, and trying to do what I thought others would like. It wasn't til I started drawing what I liked or what I thought would be cool that's when I found my own style. Practice your painting and create something your happy with.

Thanks!! Those ideas sound great. I am definitely scared of messing up an art piece because I am scared of trying a new medium. But I would like to try Dry Pastels and continue with the watercolors. So I will definitely get a light box. I think I saw one at Blick, so I better hurry 
Yeah my friend said that too! She likes to draw too so I persuaded her to join Deviantart. She told me that some art teachers don't even know what they are talking about either. My last teacher was telling us to never use black and white because nothing is a pure white and pure black throws off an image... I completely agree with you that there is no right or wrong way of drawing. My teacher even said that too BUT it was instilled in me that I HAD to draw something she liked because I was still being graded. If she truly believe that, then NOONE would fail the class but some did. As of now, I am doing what you said and trying to draw what I like and trying to develop my own style.
