Thanks for adding my work to your collection and for all of your comments. Sorry this is coming so late, as you can tell I haven't been very active - but that might change now n-n

Guess you're like me then. I've been in a rut since... too long ago. Though taking part in those poetry challenges did help quite a lot.
Same to you! Your poems are always a real treat to read! And I love how when you come back from a hiatus, you always post a whole bunch, keke.

Dear friend, I'm so glad you're finally a member of MacroPoetry ! I wanted to invite you ages ago but you were pretty inactive. So, now that you're active, hopefully being part of this group will help get you the exposure you deserve.
--
As part of your welcome tour, here's a link to the group's basic rules . Next, we have the poetry folder if you would like to submit some poetry. That brings the welcome tour to an end but we'll be eagerly waiting to see more of your work soon!

So far, so good. It would mean a lot to rebuild my support group, especially with inspirational artists such as yourself. Are you as surprised as I am that there aren't as many submissions to the folder of this poetry group??

classic-poet In reply to RockerByBaby [2016-06-29 14:23:14 +0000 UTC]
That's good! Ah, pfftt. Well, yes, hopefully you'll find ones better than myself. I have been trying to rebuild my support group too this past year+. It's a pretty hard task, I have to say.
Umm, yes and no because I know the reasons why. Firstly, the group is only about two years old, so it's still growing. The literature community on dA seems to have shrunk down a lot in comparison to back when we were really active, so it's harder to find poets who are active and will stay continue to stay active. Secondly, the group focuses on both poetry and macrophotography... which unfortunately, seems to turn some poets away. We've been trying to figure out what the reason is exactly and how to attract more poets but... that's still a work in progress. :/ Thirdly, there are people who, even if they stay active, don't post that regularly (myself included).
That said, we do try to go more for quality than quantity, so a pro for our situation is that the level of the poetry in the group is, in my opinion, quite high even though we don't have that many submissions!

It is hard, I couldn't agree more. I'll spend hours going through someone's entire poetry gallery that stands out to me, favorite the ones that stood out most, leave my lengthy, uplifting comments, even leave them with a deviant watch because I feel like we're on the same page and can greatly help each other out, and once they come back to post more poems, I'm lucky if they even decided to reply to any of my comments. So I'm learning that just because you really adore someone else's work and discover what you'd call a match with your works, doesn't mean they'll feel the same. It just always feels so dead here anymore. And I miss those days I used to have a pretty decently active circle. You are literally the only one that seems to have stuck around, with an occasional stranger that maybe pity likes 1-2 of my works, twice a year if I'm lucky. I get more llama badges than faves, comments, and watches combined. As much as I write for myself, I must admit that it all still makes the desire to stick around that much more challenging and pointless if my time and effort is just going to sit there and gather dust. To me, that says a lot about how weak my writing truly is, and that I just need to step up my game if I'm to be taken seriously. Because I can use positive feedback and negative attention, but that's not to say I need it to keep writing alone. For me, that's been the biggest obstacle. To maintain that fire I have for poetry, meanwhile witnessing its world crash around me as it's just not taken seriously anymore.

Yeah, I totally feel the same way. Pfftt, pity likes. DON'T SAY IT LIKE THAT. THEY'RE NOT PITY LIKES. THEY LIKED IT BECAUSE IT WAS GOOD. Sheesh, you must get quite a lot of llama badges... I know, I really know that feeling too well. Recently, I realised something. After seeing how DDs work, I realised that the kind of stuff we write and like... the really emotional, self-expression kind of stuff... it isn't really what people want to read or actually like that much in the end. And that's just sad, especially when there are some really good pieces out there that really do deserve the attention. It's gotten to the point where I'm seriously considering not posting on dA anymore because most of my pieces are too personal that I don't even want to ask for critique and that means I won't be improving toward what people want to read. Though I've been trying to work toward that, at the same time, I don't want to have to change the way I write just to fit in. I guess it may be worth for us to look for another site as a secondary place to post our poetry?

Do you have anything in mind?
I've noticed that going on, too. A lot of amazing work is overlooked on here. I'm down for searching another site, but I've become too attached to DA to just leave it for dead. You don't need other people to improve though. Yes it helps, but we improve from reading our old works or other people's works. We improve from experience.
And I don't get too many llama badges, but I get enough to be grateful

Not sure, really. I've found a few alternatives but in the end, I'm not motivated enough to try them when I'm not really that active in the first place, haha.
Mm, that's true. I think I was just going through a bit of an existential crisis as a writer when I wrote my last response. I keep having quite a few of those lately, haha. Just the feeling like maybe this really isn't something I should be doing.
Pffttt, you made it sound like you get tons of them!
Also, you may be interested in this ? They're attempting to connect us hermit writers together, ahaha.
