He didn't. He has black hair on Ullanor, too, where they were celebrating. ^^

But I get it, the image of him being blond is far more pervasive than some mentions in books.

Traditionally, in all the collected visions and horus heresy novels his hair is blonde and is described as such. There is only ONE mention of him having black hair .

I really don't want to get into an argument on this, but the HH novels consistently have his hair black (Horus Rising, A Thousand Sons). It is blond in the art, that's true. But most of the art is older.

I always see people that kinda fight over his hair and more surprised that they do not know why his hair is black or blonde. Sanginius would dye his hair after a battle to show mourning to the soldiers that were lost.As I know from past readings he did not do it during the HH because he did not have time to feel sorry about the soldiers that have died. (Horus is trying to take everything so best to be battle ready.) I prefer him in blonde hair but really as long as it is Sanginius then it does not matter.

There really is no argument No one is fighting over anything. Theres the canonical fluff and the extra bits from codexes and white dwarf. Dan Abnett confirmed it in one of his video blogs that Sanguinius is naturally blonde.
