You know, if Capcom developed DMC5, hopefully they'll give us a PS VR game where we could play as a different character in the DMC world.

For a new Devil May Cry game, we wanted one that retained the satisfying, fast-paced combat of the first, third and fourth games, a lighthearted storyline, the same laid-back, white-haired, Cambion Dante we all know and love, the same visually stunning graphics and imaginative locations of the 3rd and 4th games, but enhanced even further for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles, and one that is developed internally by Capcom themselves and directed by Hideaki Itsuno. And that was the 5th Devil May Cry title we were expecting back then after the release of the original DMC4 back in 2008.
Instead, we got a rock, in the form of DMC: Devil May Cry. Developed by Ninja Theory and removing everything what made the series so good in the first place. Sad, isn't it?

I compared those DMC4 screenshots... (Pay very close attention to the environment detail)

And compared them to these stock photos...

Those environments are so similar to each other. DMC 4 is set in a fictional fantasy-themed world, whereas the designs that inspired the game's environments are in real life.
Gotta give credit to the DMC4 team that worked hard on making those environments and in-game landscapes so visually stunning!

The environments of the Devil May Cry reboot are unappealing and very unimaginative. I mean, they literally washed the environments with way too many orange and blue hues, and it's clear that they have taken from many other, much better sources. It's just as uninteresting and dull as the rest of the game itself. It's more like, in order to make the environments, Ninja Theory just did the cut-and-paste route for all this. It's more like The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, only swallowed up and regurgitated back out, and slapped with the Devil May Cry name on it.
DMC4's environment, however, is much better and more elaborate. The designers for the game made a fantasy setting, staying true to the rest of the original series, with a touch of gothic in it. The color palette is a lot better, and it doesn't hurt the eyes as much as the DmC reboot does. And it's crafted with a lot more imagination and immersion. It's so much more imaginative than the reboot. There are medieval-baroque-stylized cities, mountains, tropical rainforests, castles, and lots more. It is synonymous with the fantasy genre, and the fantasy genre is synonymous with imagination.
The environments in DMC4 really mesh together well, also. If you ever played the game, you know what I'm talking about. The designers for the 4th game really pulled it off in terms of visuals. Magic and fantasy are abound in DMC4. The Devil May Cry reboot pushes all that aside for hard and edgy, with Fox News all over it. And ugh, the reboot and its environment don't go we'll with the rest of the series at all. >.>
DmC: Devil May Cry is an example of a supernatural fantasy video game gone wrong, with lots of fantasy cliches abound. DMC4 shows how a great fantasy-themed video game is supposed to be done. Along with other factors (including the carefree Dante we all know and love), it's no wonder why the 4th installment gained so much popularity among fans of the original series and others.
Thanks for reading.

In light of the DMC4 SE release this month. I'm sad to have finished writing the made-up reviews, but it's good to give the reboot and it's sorry definitive edition a huge final nail in the coffin. Hope you enjoy them!

Yeah. Final Fantasy has a mix if Science Fiction and Fantasy in it. So, yeah, I'd love to call DMC4 a Final Fantasy game if Capcom was allowed to develop it because it's got Sci-Fi/Fantasy in it xD

I noticed, that, in Devil May Cry 4, since it's a Fantasy Video Game (Like the other three), it's got some Sword and Sorcery in it, with a dash of guns!
The "sorcery" I mentioned above, in DMC4, comes from the supernatural powers the enemies and the heroes utilize and possess, such as Nero's glowing arm, and the Summoned Swords that Vergil sends out, not to mention the Devil Trigger forms. Other magical and supernatural elements are abound, like Echidna, who can turn into a dragon, and giant-sized gods, like the Savior. There's also secret realms/places, like the dark and swampy Hidden Pit, in which you WILL be sent to if you take the wrong way out while in the Lost Woods.
Devil May Cry 4 is Sword, Sorcery, and Guns all rolled into one. Just like Devil May Cry 1, 2 and 3. And it's all set in a Fantasy world, where magic and demons roam free!
Do you agree that the Devil May Cry series, even (especially) the 4th installment, have sorcery/magic/supernatural elements in it? Give me feedback!

The thing about the DMC4 game background is that it has the 'magic' component (the fact that there are demons and our heroes had mixed blood of human and demon is magical enough XD), and also the 'science-fiction' component (with Agnus's lab aand experiments).
The DMC2 game had also the same elements.
I love to see how both perspectives (the magical and the scientifical) coexist in this 'world'. It's obvious, at least for me, that is not 'our' world, but a different one with other rules.

Yeah. I'd like to call Devil May Cry 4 a "High Fantasy" video game because it's set in a imaginary world different from ours xD

I love the world of Devil May Cry 4 the most! It's the most imaginative out of the four: with a unique blend of environments, both indoors and out. From the coastal town of Fortuna to the snowy mountain ranges and even to a tropical jungle!
In addition to that, there are many monsters to be fought in the game. Some of the monsters, like the lizard-like ones, resemble dragons. There are creatures that look like wolves. There are winged supernatural creatures (Angels, Wraiths). And there are giant-sized gods! O.O
Many of the monsters in DMC4 are based off of fantasy creatures from fairy tales, mythology and folklore. The DMC4 team sure did make good use of their skills to create such imaginative, in-game mythical creatures! Much more imaginative than the badly-designed monsters in the reboot. ;D

The monster and demon design of DMC4 is brilliant. The Blitz is one of my favorites, and Frost is the most elegand demon I've ever seen XD
Though, talking about enviroment, I preffer Ardor Castke, in DMC1... I always loved castles, and it was a bit disappointing that Fortuna Castle wasn't as complicated, sinister and full of secrets as Ardor Castle was.

I'm glad that Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition is coming out. It's going to be a glorious return to a world that many of us original DMC fans never wanted to leave!
It's coming out in Summer 2015. It's very good to have it done in time, rather than rushing it. You know what they say...take your time and don't rush!

By looking at these images and all, the world from Devil May Cry 4 in design is a big dynamo. It's like a modern dark fairy tale or a contemporary Dungeons and Dragons fantasy world! In fact, the world of DMC4 is one big fantasyland!
The reboot world? Blah. Just another average urban teen fantasy world, much like Cassandra Clare created her own. DMC4's world and environments are superior!
And DMC4 was released back in 2-5-2008, before Capcom turned our backs on us...it began in 2010, I think, is what when the company turned their back on us and gave us that uglified Dante redesign. I still hate the new Dante...

You know, just by watching the entire cutscene-filled movie of the Devil May Cry reboot, it plays out like a bad episode of the CW's Supernatural, Buffy, or Angel, in addition to being a Mortal Instruments/Cassandra Clare rip-off.
If Joss Whedon saw the reboot, then he'd sue Ninja Theory for stealing his style from one of his supernatural teen TV dramas. Just shows how unoriginal the reboot is. :sigh:

Also, don't forget the 'They Live' rip-off.
I mean, it's not bad to make references related to art, literature, movies, etc on a videogame... the bad thing is doing it while pretending it's "all original", and that's what Ninja Theory did.
