This is a really old post, but commissions are pieces of art made by the artist that can be sold using points/money to other people/artists.

I don't currently have any groups on this account, but there are a lot of groups to choose from (some deviations have a section saying they're submitted to a group, which is usually where I find groups to join; it's usually a bit below the picture on the right side). That's where you can (usually) find groups relative to your interests. Then go to the group page, send a request to join, and viola! Some groups auto-accept members, but others have to have a mod accept you.
