Thank you so much! I really appreaciate it! I actually keep my materials a secret, I'm sorry! It took a ton of time, work, and money to try to find markers that worked, so I'm a little touchy about giving away the info Thanks for the lovely compliments, though!

Aww shucks Oh well. I still love them I do have a question that won't corrupt your business though Which brand of shoe do you prefer to use? Or are they all pretty much the same?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Some-Imagination In reply to spurrier296 [2011-06-20 19:59:37 +0000 UTC]

I let people choose whatever brand white canvas sneaker they want, because technically, they all do work. However, the canvas used in Converse and Vans is the most bleed-resistant. Cheaper, knock-off shoes and Keds both bleed a LOT. And Toms are difficult to work on because of their weird shape.

Your shoes are wonderful! I love love love all the Disney ones and the Harry Potter ones. I really like how on some of the shoes you colored the seams that divide the different sections, or how you colored the strap things on the Princess shoes different colors. It makes them look so much more fun (: So I've been wanting to try this myself and was wondering if you could tell me a little about what you use/how you do it? It would be much appreciated (:

Thank you so much for the wonderful compliments! Figuring out materials that work has been a loooong process. I personally prefer markers to paint (They're less messy and you don't have to put any sort of finish on the shoes first). Basically, I went to all of the art stores around my house and bought every brand of marker I could find and tested it on scrap canvas. I'm a little reluctant to tell people which marker ended up being the winner, because it took a lot of work to find. I will give you some tips, though. Always, always, always, no matter what kind of marker you're using, heat-set the shoes before wearing them or putting any kind of finish or sealant on them. This can be done using a hair dryer or by throwing the shoes in the dryer for 20 minutes. I don't know why it works, but it makes the colors more permanent and fade- and bleed- resistant. Also, watch out for red markers. There are very few brands of red markers that don't bleed. Even if all of the other colors of the same brand work perfectly, sometimes the red will still bleed like crazy if it gets wet.

I hope this helps!

I have a question about your painted shoes: How much would a pair of size 8 womens converse (all stars) cost, including shipping to California?
And how much would a pair of 6.5 womens Vans or Keds cost, including shipping to CA? Thanks!
