I just got Paint Tool SAI. Any pointers for, you know, actually succeeding? Like smooth lines and such, and little shortcuts?

Succeeding? Hun, it's art you just have to keep practicing to get better and better. Everyone has room for improvement, even I still do. Not quite sure if "succeeding" was the right term to use, but I can understand you mean "understanding the knowledge to do certain things"
id id be happy to give you some pointers and help you along though~ It's just.... There's so many things and techniques when drawing with SAI (that I do), I don't know where to begin xD
