# About me
I'm Rachel, and I really hate filling these things out. No attempts here will be made to be witty or original...:pI'm 23 years old, originally from Oxfordshire (which is beautiful, by the way) now living in Wales with my family.
What else...um...I love tattoos. Can't wait to be covered in them! I have 7 so far :) I also love nature and music. I play guitar and piano (although the latter has been neglected recently due to, oh I don't know, not owning an piano :p)
Obviously I love art...otherwise I wouldn't be here! Would like to learn digital art one day, but me and technology are mortal enemies. The fact that I have worked out my iPad enough to be typing this right now is a miracle :p but anyway, traditional art is all I have ever known and done and I do love it.
I also love pirates. I have a lifelong dream to steal a boat and become a pirate. Still pretty convinced it's gonna happen one day.
Massive gamer here too ^_^ Zelda, mario and pokemon make me happy.
Music wise...Rock and metal. But weirdly my favourite ever band, ever, in the universe is arcade fire...
I don't bite, if you want to chat drop me a message :)

You're very welcome. Your art is wonderful, and really inspiring. I may give water colours a go if that's what can be achieved with them!! 😊

Awe, thank you! Hey, at least you did it!! Practice makes perfect, and I think sewing is a skill that you can get pretty good at pretty fast. I have taught a few of my friends how to sew, but I did it buy throwing them in the deep end and having them make full cosplays! I would say, go for it! You never know what you can do until you try. If you fail then you'll have learned a lot from it and be better the next time you try! If you want to practice sewing, but you have no money, then make little pillows. My sister and I used to make little pillows all the time when we were kids, because we could use old clothes or rags which were totally free.

That's not a bad idea problem is I know how to do some basic stitches, I can join fabrics together fine, but I don't know how to make patterns. I tried to make a pokemon plush and it just didn't sew up together at all. It was just badly sized and lopsided. And I'm reluctant to take other people's patterns, because I'd like to make my own original plushies if I'm going to do it at all!
wish I knew someone who could teach me! 😔 are you self taught? Xxx

My dad taught me a little when I was 5 years old, but mostly I'm self taught. I was an ok sewer, and then I started to cosplay and my skills improved a lot very quickly. I still sew everything by hand, which is where I would recommend new people start. (But it's obviously better for smaller projects.) Once you have done a bit of hand sewing, then you can try a machine. (I don't use a machine because of a lot of reasons that I won't torture you with, but I know most cosplayers do!) Plushies are HARD to make! Esp if they have round parts. I think making clothes is easier! For my cosplays, I find a nice shirt that fits me well, and I kind of use it as a pattern. I did that with a 6 panel dress shirt for my Peach Dresses , and with a well fitted t-shirt for my Link cosplay . (Not the prettiest pics in the links, but you can see the shirt parts.) Also, you can find pieces that are close to what you need at a second hand store and alter them. I did that for my Kaname shirt to make the sleeves poof more and add the borders. I actually still wear the shirts I used as a "pattern" too, so it's nice that you don't have to destroy it. The issue is that there is a lot of guess work when you do it this way. I like to put the whole shirt part together with safety pins so I can try it on and adjust what I need to to make it fit. Girls clothes are harder than guys too, because it's more curvy and normally has more parts. If you're looking to sell plushies though, I think having your own patterns is better. ^^ You can make them flatter if you're having a hard time, so that they're only two panels. (Kind of like Hello Kitty.) Or, you can play off the world's love of squares and make them boxy. If there are round parts though, I would practice sewing a few balls before making your own pattern. (Balls are normally like 6 panels.) That would give you a better idea of how weird shapes work. When my sister made her Yoshi she basically made a giant ball for the nose part. (Though the rest of the head was a mess to make! )

First of all, thank you for such a thoughtful reply ^_^ I found it really helpful! I never would have though that plushies would be harder than cosplays! So I never even tried. That's a brill idea though, using clothes as templates. May have to give it a go for Halloween or something!
Im probably going to attempt plushies again later on down the line...
i wouldn't even know where to start with a sewing machine! I haven't used on for about 10 years XD since I was in school! Xx

Oh, it's my pleasure! If I can encourage anyone to cosplay, that makes me pretty happy! It's so much fun to cosplay, so I hate to see people missing out when they think they can't cosplay, and they really can while having a great time with it!
Halloween is a good time to try it, but really it's alright to jump right in and wear your first try to a con. I mean, there are always mean people in the world, but most people are super nice and encouraging to new cosplayers. And people will just appreciate that you tried your best and made it (or put it together) yourself! I'm not great with a sewing machine either. I tried one like 5 or so years ago, but I it was actually faster for me just to sew it by hand than to try and figure out the machine!
If you need any help or advice for your cosplay, let me know! I'll be happy to help in anyway I can!

Thank you may take you up on that! I haven't ever been to a con before...😳 want to go to London con this year but don't know if I can. I don't know many fellow nerds around here! XD except my partner, and he barely gets days off 😥 I expect machines are easier when it comes to making details and that but meh no need to fix something that isn't broken! Hope you're ok! xx

I have heard that there are a lot less cons in the European countries compared to the Americas, which can make it tricky. I hope you can make it to London Con though! I'll be cheering for you to make it!
