# About me
Back from a sojourn in the real world. Finding Deviant Art even more frustrating than ever - do people ever really look at these portfolios? I am a middle aged (old)anarchist Taoist and Druid, whose revolutionary zeal has paled from the vibrant red and black to a pale pink and grey. I was a professional artist (graphics) then became a psychologist, a university lecturer in social psychology, statistics and philosophy and a Gestalt counsellor. Now mostly retired, thank goodness, but sometimes take freelance work (I couldn't take much more of this brutally money-oriented cess pit of a world). I smoke, but don't drink (blood pressure!) and don't do drugs (dope gives me a headache). All my old vices have caught up to bite me in the ankles, so I'm looking for new ones to replace them. I get frustrated with DeviantArt because nothing seems to get noticed ... ho hum. One day I hope to be filthy rich so that I can retire and live the life of indolence that I was intended for.Current Residence: Nottingham, UK

Your calligraphy is awesome! I like those "old" calligraphies very much. I have always wondered how to do those.
Yup.

Hiya Thanks for all the comments and the
I had a look at your gallery, and I think you have a good calligraphic sense. I've been messing about with pens since I was a child (my mother is Irish, so I grew up with the Book of Kells!), and the best advice I can really give is practice until you are no longer afraid of the tools (I still get a bit anxious sometimes). Also get some good examples of calligraphy and build a collection for ideas, and just for the joy of it.
The other thing I'd suggest is not to do practice for the sake of it - that gets boring. Instead, treat everything (shopping lists, post it notes etc) as opportunities to play with letters - then practice becomes play.
I'll have a look in my book collection and see if I can find any good titles for you - you will need to become familiar with a wider range of letters than just 'Old English'.
Finally, experiment. I prefer to write with either a steel pen or a quill using gouache. I've never really enjoyed writing with ink because it's too thin for my approach.
Um. Does that help?

Thanks for the response.
I recently bought some calligraphy pens [link]
These seem to work pretty well. I need to post some of my new work up. I've written a lot in the past few days just messing around. I brought them to school and filled in A,B,C,D workshets with calligraphy letters I know Old English is a very appealing look to do But it is hard to find other alphabets to try and do. I also have the pens with the nibs and ink. I'm not very good with them lol. I suppose I should try to use them a little.
Thank you again for taking the time to send this I appreciate it.
