Yeah. It's not a terribly hard game once you know all the mechanics, but it's still superbly fun and has a really solid story.

Okay. So. There's some hidden stuff about the game they don't tell you. I'll try to compile a list here, and when you get to that point in the game where they introduce the game mechanic I can tell you the HIDDEN mechanics they don't warn you about.

Lemme see:
- How to REALLY use magic items.
- What leveling up additions effects and how to get the final addition.
- How to level up Dragoon form.
- What the "Special" command REALLY does.

Okay. Here we go:

#1 - Magic Items:
These are actually really helpful, but using them effectively is a little more tricky. There are several things that effect how much damage they deal. The first thing is the elemental attribute, which is something you should ALWAYS be paying attention to. I believe that the item merchant at the very beginning of the game gives you a good run down of how they work, but I'll refresh you here just in case.
Elements have opposites in this game. Meaning that you will deal more damage to, but take more damage from, the opposite element. Elements are represented by the color that the enemy's name plate is at the top of the screen. These work as such:
Fire (Red) - Water (Blue)
Earth (Gold/Brown) - Air (Green)
Light (White) - Dark (Purple)
Lightning (Violet)*
Non-element (Gray)*
*Neither Lightning nor no element have an opposite. (This means that while you won't get a damage bonus for using a lightning based character, you also won't take bonus damage.)
Oh yeah, every character also has an elemental affinity. Meaning that they will always take bonus damage from opposing element attacks.
The second thing that effects attack item damage is the character's magic stat. Characters with higher Magic Attack will always deal more damage with attack items.
The third, and last thing, that effects attack item damage really isn't important, but it's kinda nifty to know. If you match the item's element to the character's elemental affinity you will get bonus damage. This doesn't outweigh how much Magic Attack effects damage done, so in the end just use the characters with higher M.Atk.

#2 - Additions:
As you have probably noticed by now when you successfully perform an Addition it gains 1 experience towards completion. Every 20 successful Additions and it will level up. When an addition gains a level, either the damage percentage bonus will go up (meaning it deals more damage) or the amount of SP it gives goes up (SP is important, remember it for the next point). An Addition is maxed when it hits level 5. This means you need to do the Addition successfully at least 80 times. Most Additions you will receive just by leveling your characters up, but the final, and most powerful Addition, is only attained when all other Additions are maxed. 
I would recommend stopping when you get to a point where there is a fountain next to a save point and just farming Additions.

#3 - Dragoon Form XP:
This one is actually rather simple! On the other hand it's kind of ironic. Dragoon form gains experience from the amount of SP your character produces through their Additions. This means that the more they attack with Additions, the more experience, and levels, they provide to their Dragoon form! ... but also means that they don't gain Dragoon experience while IN Dragoon form.
What you will notice from this is that some Additions have really crappy damage percentage bonuses, but really good SP gain. These will REALLY help you level up Dragoon form (which goes from level 1 to a max of 5.)
Side note: The character using the bow doesn't do Additions but still generates SP through attacking. If you want to level their Dragoon form while grinding out the other's Additions, just have her throw in attacks.

#4 - Dragoon Special:
This is probably the most under-explained thing in the game. If you've used Special you've noticed that all three go into Dragoon form and the character that initiated it gets free Dragoon Additions. What the game DOESN'T tell you that's REALLY important is that the character who initiated Special also changed the element of the entire field. This means that matching elemental damage is super boosted (doubled, I believe) and opposing elemental damage is nerfed (half... I believe.) So having Dart use Special and then spamming Final Burst does amazing damage, while at the same time making Water damage incredibly measly.

#1 - Ahh, I can dig that! Is there a reason though that Lavitz was so weak to lightning, compared to everyone else, in the last boss fight of disc one? Was he just weak to magic in general, and I never noticed?

#2 - Wait what's a fountain?! I'm assuming it's a place I can heal (so it being by a save point makes leveling awesome), but I don't think I've ever found one!! Also, I wasn't sure how my additions were leveling, so thank you for that!!

#3 - Oh okay! I was wondering why Shana didn't have any additions...

1. Yeah. Lavitz's M.Def stat is shit. He'll always take tons of damage from Magical Sources.

2. Fountain, spring, magical light thingy. When you touch it you'll get your HP back and stuff. There was a plant-like one before Feyrbrand.

Ahh, okay. I think I may be missing those, then. I found one in the shrine....uhhh....gah, the one guarded by the theif. But it only healed me once! After that, it said something else when I went into the light. D;
