Not really any others. I read fanfiction in the Battlestar Galactica (2003) continuity, and am a fan of Watership Down, Dune, and Raptor Red, but those fandoms aren't really active online per se.

Dune is kind of hard to describe in even a dozen paragraphs, but it is simultaneously one of the most anacronistic futuristic worlds developed in science fiction and also one of the ones with the most political intrigue and philosophical ponderings. I would highly recommend the first book, Dune, by Frank Herbert. After the first book things get rather out there. Also the 2000 Scifi channel miniseries is a good one, albeit with questionable production values. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BL5FRU…
