# About me

I've spent the last few years writing a full length novel called 'The Fallen Star'. I've reached a point where I really need some feedback, so I thought I'd come to one of the best known sites on the web =)

Can't complain.

Writing isn't going as smoothly as once it did, but those things happen. I'm getting a bit tired of the current storyline and I just want to conclude it. Only very vague ideas yet of what the next is going to be.

On the positive side, I am revising and compiling the material for the second book, which I think may actually be finished by the end of the month. Which is a lot faster than I thought, because quite honest, I've been doing that so long now, I thought it would never be finished. lol.

Walt-Marsters In reply to TheFS [2013-10-05 13:39:43 +0000 UTC]

It has been a while!

I'm okay, thanks. Have had a cold but the worst is over!

Still trying to put the second book together, but it's going terribly slow. Mostly because I'm spending more time on writing new things than editing and formatting the old stuff! My own fault of course.

How about the fallen star? Any new things coming to DA?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

TheFS In reply to Walt-Marsters [2013-10-06 10:01:06 +0000 UTC]

Ah well, I hope you're feeling better soon!

Yeah, rewriting and editing seems to take forever - especially when the more exciting things are happening later in the book! That's the stage I'm at as well: trying to get the second book rewritten and edited ready for posting. University life is taking over at the moment so I won't have anything too son I'm afraid Ā

I saw one of your grammar natzi reviews. How exactly do I get one of those? My prose isn't that bad but I need feedback in general for a fantasy book that I am almost finished writing.

I've have a quick read and left a comment.

I also read what *Great-Lord-Dread said. I have to be honest, I do agree with him for quite a bit of it. I think it's just his style that he only points out what he thinks is wrong with it, and doesn't attempt to explain how it can be solved. He doesn't comment constructively.

He's right about Lance and Cynthia. Lance being high and mighty, and Cynthia being reactional and a blank slate. But he doesn't go into how to change that. If you haven't done it already, then it's obvious that you either don't know how, or can't. You might need help and a few ideas to get you started! I wouldn't dismiss what he has to say, but take it in the way it was intended, as some things he thinks could be improved, rather than just bashing. I'm not sure whether he was give you idea to improve, if he found something uninteresting, or badly written, but you could try

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

KathraW In reply to TheFS [2013-01-15 23:27:01 +0000 UTC]

I do understand his points. I just don't want to recommend that sort of feedback for others here. I personally don't think many would be able to handle such a critic. I take harsh critique and deal with it, but I know others may not. I feel like he should've been more constructive in a helpful sense rather than appearing to be hateful.

I think he should understand what the writer wants and needs to hear in oppose to what he believes is correct. He doesn't seem to take that into account when he writes critiques, making me feel like he doesn't care to help, just wants to state his opinion.

I personally respect people who can be harsh for a reason, but the trick is being wise about doing it. To me, he hasn't reached that point yet.

Maybe that's unfair. What do you think?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

TheFS In reply to KathraW [2013-01-15 23:30:51 +0000 UTC]

I think what he says is valid but his bluntness can be disconcerting, especially for those who, like you say, can't handle that sort of critique.

I've added a comment or two to the conversation you were having with him on your first chapter, trying to get him to understand both sides of the argument.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

KathraW In reply to TheFS [2013-01-15 23:37:14 +0000 UTC]

That's basically what I was trying to say. I get where he's coming from, but he needs to be able to know what to say and when to say it~

Thank you for doing so. I've already read through them.
