# About me

I'm currently in Topeka, Kansas but this place is all new to me. I grew up in Arizona and California, with brief time in Nevada and Oregon.
I am self taught and am looking to get into school to fix that. I love darker imagery, life studies, and sketchy, pop, gritty feeling art. I also love photography.

Hey friend! This is Yamidog from Proudmoore a million years ago. I saw something that reminded me of you a little bit ago and just spent the last hour searching every keyword I could think of to find your dA page. It says you haven't been on for a while so I hope you're doing awesome!

O_O Wow!
I just came back on here randomly cause its been so long. LOL. How odd. Its great to talk to you again, how is everything?
I went to hell and back and i ran away LOL i live in Kansas now and own a house. its bizarre. (this all just happened) but its great.
Now i'm curious as to what you saw that reminded you of me, hehe.

That's awesome! Last time we spoke you were moving for the second time at least (since I've known you anyway). That's so cool you own a house! I hope to have one of those someday, lmao. Actually I searched for myself to see if google had filtered off my artwork from google search (it was a blogspot setting - I just wanted to see if it worked), and was messing around and looked for "Yamidog" and found the icon of Wreath you had on the old TSOW forums! It's scary but those forums still exist. Anyway, good to hear back!

TheHolly In reply to ashkey [2011-07-22 15:26:14 +0000 UTC]

LOL NO WAY! those still exist? Thats nuts...
Yeah, i was living in california forever, moved back and forth from there to reno, nv. But right when i bought a new apartment, i lost my job and was like HOLY CRAP cause i justsigned up for a year lease.... and now had no money. That ended up bad (this was around last october) so i ran away to a friends house in Kansas, and wow... um let me just say my 600 square foot apartment with one bedroom in Orange county california MY RENT ALONE costed 1,700 a month, and THIS HOUSE i own, which is huge, and has wooden floors and a pond in the backyard and everything, costs me 800 a month and thats including my gas, electric, water, trash and cable/internet and cellphone... (sadly my cell phone is the most expensive thing lmao)
So yeah i went from the most expensive to the least expensive and i feel like a rich bastard even tho i'm poor as hell. like i moved out to topeka in december absolutely broke and evicted and i've been in this house for like 3 months now... its a pretty quick restart!

BTW I LOVE YOUR ARTWORK. You're amazing. I've never had the opportunity to take art classes and i'd love to. I'm gonna start taking art classes as soon as my out of state status goes away so i can pay for tuition. I think a dream of mine would be to get an MFA in studio art.. painting and all that. Are you aiming for anything like that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ashkey In reply to TheHolly [2011-07-23 18:56:45 +0000 UTC]

That must have been crazy stressful. >.< And omg I had an apartment in Denver about that size and it was a third of that price! (600 a month) After all the issues you've had with moving you definitely deserve the nice new home! Are there fish in the pond? I would like a pond with koi or something. I'm glad your living situation has figured itself out - relief! Lol

Thanks a lot! I'm surprised you haven't taken art classes before, your photography is so good! I think you'd do super well in them, since you already have a great sense of composition and your drawings are really good too. I got my BFA in 2D Animation in April, now I'm looking for a job animating/designing for children's cartoons and(/or) video games! How long until you get in-state tuition? I think in Canada it is six months, but hopefully here it is less!

TheHolly In reply to ashkey [2011-07-23 22:35:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the cost of living in orange county area is absolutely absurd... I hated it. It was either you are dirt poor and have no chance in hell of ever having a place all to yourself and not having to live with roomates, or you were a movie star and had loads of money (but they give you shit for free all the time anyway just for being famous)...

CONGRATS on the BFA! That is so great. That would be an amazing job to have, wow! I hope you find something soon... Oh and the in-state tuition? i've asked a few different people and received mixed answers. (some people say 6 months some say a whole year!) I figure i'll just fill out FAFSA stuff in december to see if i can't get a little help with a grant and go to the spring semester next year.

And thank you! I just mess around with my stuff honestly... I want to try everything so i never actually get REALLY GOOD at just one thing that i draw or photograph or paint etc. It's hard for me too cause i've always drawn growing up, and i always did it from my head only, and whatever i drew was never planned out. it just kinda would unfold and BAM i had something. Thats kinda what happened when i drew my friend and i in Alterac valley with the wolves. it just happens ... But its like, nearly impossible for me to draw what i see, its a whole nother part of the brain; similar, but different. So i've been trying to work on that recently. IT WOULD BE A LOT QUICKER to just be in a school and be immersed in that sort of environment with people to bounce ideas and critiques back and forth, you know? Wow i'm talking a lot... i'm so sorry Hahahaha! *covers mouth*

Yuck, I don't like the sound of that. >.< I'm sure California is very nice but I don't know if I'd want to live there!

And thanks a lot! My boyfriend moved to Boston so I'm trying to get a job over there, but it is a slow, patience-testing process. XD Are you thinking about an art college or just an art program in a state university? Apply for tons of scholarships, I think you'll get one at least! The "continuing education" thing might apply to you too, but I'm not sure what age it starts at (or what it is exactly LOL).

I feel your pain with the WANT TO TRY EVERYTHING XD I jump back and forth between mediums so much, I'm not fabulous with any of them because of it. It's just so much more interesting to try everything and not get bored with the same thing every time - art is fun, not work! Haha I never planned stuff out either, but school will teach you that stuff and you'll learn a ton and it will be awesome!

TheHolly In reply to ashkey [2011-07-26 15:23:18 +0000 UTC]

Oh, yeah you see, i have no idea! I'd be fine attending either art college or state university.
I suppose i could do both. Start out here at the state college that is right down the road, and continue somewhere else. I'm used to big cities where theres lots of art and things happening all the time (thanks to phoenix az, and living right next to LA, and San Diego) and now i'm in topeka, kansas... and um... let me say, there is absolutely NOTHING out here. I was trying to join maybe some sort of art guild or ANYTHING out here out of desperation, but everyone paints pictures of the prairies out here. so it'll be like blue sky and some grass. Thousands of blue sky and grass pictures with no end in sight. There is absolutely nothing wrong with those pictures and they are, in fact, beautiful at times but the sheer number of them and the lack of everything else is what worries me. It's kind of funny cause i showed some people who were like "oh wow you do art?" some of my stuff, and when i showed them my stuff, they just frowned and said it was weird and they don't like it. hahaha. "why don't you paint/photograph something normal like a sunset or some prairies?"

@_@ What, lol! It made me grin. If i stick to local stuff, i might end up being limited to the subject matter of grass, hay bails, sunflowers, and endless sky.

OMG i'd kill to go to new york or san fransisco or somewhere and go to a nice art university. *drools* but i might as well get my first two years here at washburn U. Yeah i have no idea about the continuing education thing... i can always try

and OH NOOOOOOO Your bf is in boston without you? That would make me nuts. I'd be a pest and probably be skyping him everyday like a dork if i was in your position. My bf's friend is trying to move in down here, (cause we've got like 2 huge spare bedrooms and we don't know wtf to do with them) and he's having the worst time finding a job too because all they say to him is "sorry, we need you in the area if you're going to apply"

It's hard enough to secure a job in general, but to get one while out of the area-...

Oh oh oh! and speaking of mediums, i just found out about painting with smoke! Apparently even dali utilized this. Its called fumage, have you ever done this before? It looks fun and potentially dangerous, so i want to give it a try next.

ashkey In reply to TheHolly [2011-07-29 18:44:21 +0000 UTC]

ROFL You'd think after seeing prairies and 180 degrees of sky every time you step outside they'd want to see art of something else. Lmao I sort of found it the same here, not about art but of the scenery, because I grew up with LOTS OF TREES EVERYWHERE and ocean nearby so Colorado makes me crazy claustrophobic sometimes, though the landscape isn't nearly as extreme as Kansas!! I like your college plan though - just go with the flow. If there are any landscape painting type of classes you will get plenty of prairie practice! Lol

Maybe not living in the area is slowing me down getting a job over there too! Maybe removing my address from my resume will help (sneaky sneaky). Haha, it kind of sucks being sooo far away but I'm visiting him next week!! I'm getting a lot of stuff done with all the free time.

Even after a million hours of art history, I never heard about the smoke thing! Every type of fine art seems to be life-threatening, but putting your life on the line to make something pretty has been what artists have done since forever rofl (oil paints giving you cancer and fixatives gluing your lungs shut and yummy stuff like that)

I love bikes too, specially the Ducati 1098S and others like Yamaha R1, Honda Cbr 1000, Suzuki Gsx R 1000.

And I have two shots of a Suzuki in my gallery!

Again, thank you and good luck!!

OMG i know! Aren't those bikes just amazing? I don't think it'd be wise for me to get one of those as a first bike however, haha! (Not that the 696 is a kiddie bike either... i mean i hear it can still get up to 60 in 3 or 4 seconds? But that was just from some guy, i don't know how accurate that is.)
I saw your picture of that suziki! So nice! When i finally get mine i'll have to poset some pictures up here.

Ducati's are awesome!

When I first started to look and search about bikes I found the video os the 1098S beating a Lamborguini! That was like "Omg, that is so awesome.... I want a Ducati!"

The thing is that here in Brazil the bikes cost "body parts", so expensive .
Easily going for 100% more than other countries like U.S and Canada.

Poor me!!!

But like I said, all the good luck with your Ducati!
And I want to see pics of it when you get it!!!

Maybe one day I'll have mine!

I've actually got a plenty of photos, of my dorm room only so far, maybe I'll take some of the town soon, on facebook. And the temp up here is the same as Cali pretty much. It's been pretty fair. Im WAITING for it to get cold, which should start later this month. I hope.
As for the whole staying out here thing? I don't know. There's reasons I do, and reasons I don't want to stay out here. Relating to college, I love it out here, so I don't see myself transferring.
