Kiitosta vaan! Nyt tulee itseasiasiassa kaksi vuotta täyteen digitailtelua ja vähän perinteisempäkin tuon pitkän tauon jälkeen. Ehkä pitäis päivittää tuota tekstiä vähän. Ajankäyttö maalailuun on kuitenkin edelleen haaste.

Ajaa, en tiennyt; tykkään kuitenkin sun kuvista On kyllä varmasti hankalaa löytää aikaa siihen muiden tekemisten ohella.

Thank you! I really appreciate your comments! Maybe I shouldn't call myself a beginner anymore. I still feel like a newbie, but I have been working hard with studies for the past year with all the time I have available. I have to take a better look at your gallery, but especially the digital underpainting with oils on top is something I would really love to try. I have an itch to start painting in oils, but ofcourse digital is a lot easier to manage.

Wit looks and sounds like you are doing the right things, my humble advise would be to continue with the studies and even do some master studies (they are one of the best ways to learn). Working digitally is is a great way to play around with effects and color adjustments that are much harder to do with traditional oil's. When you feel comfortable with the handling of color then I would give oil a try and see how you like it. As someone starting out towards the beginning of your art career I would focus on 1 medium for now and learn how to paint before you go off trying different painting mediums. Starting a painting digitally is a really fun technique because I can play around with the color and various effects digitally and when I am happy I have a great base to work from so I can jump into the oils; though this technique is still pretty new to me (I have only done it 3 times). Keep up the good work have fun painting and exploring!

Good advice, thanks! I've been doing the LevelUp program on concepart.org, so the last 6 months has been about studies. During that time I've done only one actual painting and quite a lot of studies. Including 27 master studies, although 21 of them were about values.
I'll certainly continue doing studies but now is the time for a couple of personal paintings. Otherwise I'll go mad :-D

Awesome that is great, you are doing exactly what you should be doing though I would keep in mind that art is supposed to be fun too and to find time to test out the things that you have learned in personal pieces. Keep studying and keep painting!

Absolutely! I tweaked it based on her comments when painting. I should buy a print of it somewhere for her, but haven't got around to do it yet.

doing LevelUp?

Yup! My problem with it is that I don't have the time for it. Next month my 6 month subscription will end and I probably can't manage all the studies from the first phase. At this rate the program will take 2 years for me and I won't really have time to paint anything else.

Bri-in-the-Sky In reply to TomasBj [2014-08-18 23:51:02 +0000 UTC]
Yeah all study and no personal work is too much for me. As much as I enjoy studies, really wanna keep having fun with my own ideas. 2 years of nothing but study, that would be intense

TomasBj In reply to Bri-in-the-Sky [2014-08-20 03:11:46 +0000 UTC]
Yup! Of course it wouldn't be full time studying with work and stuff but it would pretty much take up all my time for painting.
