Without customization, it doesn't do much past that but it looks pretty cool right?

Extremely understandable. I just do that kind of stuff for fun, even if I stepped into a discontinued topic or if the user no longer comments. Thanks for being a good sport about it nevertheless.

What kind of games do you like?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VideoGamerfrom20XX In reply to spitesyre [2016-08-14 18:09:57 +0000 UTC]

No problem. I'm mostly into retro games (specifically 8-bit, sometimes 16-bit games) and modern games that take after the retro style (like Shovel Knight and Cave Story). Where genres are concerned, I especially like platformers, arcade, action, racing, and fighting games.

spitesyre In reply to VideoGamerfrom20XX [2016-08-14 23:34:24 +0000 UTC]

Really? I into retro games too. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Megaman, Metroid are to name a few. The originals, by the way, not the new games. I haven't played Shovel Knight or Cave Story yet but they look fun. Terraria is another good game.

VideoGamerfrom20XX In reply to spitesyre [2016-08-15 02:27:18 +0000 UTC]

That's awesome! I like Mortal Kombat more than I do Street Fighter because the combat is not so tech savvy. Mega Man (Classic) is actually my second-favorite franchise after Super Mario Bros. and I'm not into Metroid because I get lost too easily in the games' expansive labyrinths. I attempt to keep up with the newer titles, but I usually don't have enough money or the right consoles to pick up the games.

Should you decide to pick up Shovel Knight, it's definitely an indie delight if you're into classic NES games since its gameplay feels a lot like Mega Man. You can actually download the original Cave Story for free on PC (and it's official, not piracy )! Lastly, I never actually played Terraria, but you got me interested in the game.

I know the feels man, money is tight. It sucks.
Myes, I love retro consoles. N64, NES, Mega Drive, GB, GameCube, are some of my favs. I'll definitely have to check into those titles then. Cheers for the info.
Terraria is a 2D 16bit indie sandbox game. The console version is nice, but I do think it's best to play on PC. You get the full, better experience. & The OST for the game is very nice too.

VideoGamerfrom20XX In reply to spitesyre [2016-08-15 06:58:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but at least there's always digital download services/systems (i.e. Steam and Virtual Console) and emulation for those times whenever purchasing games become out of the question. (Like with those one of a kind prototype builds.)
I actually still own two Nintendo 64s (one with a standard Jumper Pak and the other with an Expansion Pak), two Nintendo GameCubes (one that supports LAN, one that doesn't), and a Game Boy Color out of those (I lost my NES quite a while ago ). I never grew up with any SEGA consoles, so I had to rely on playing compilations and using emulators on PC to pick up what I missed. You're welcome for the info and thanks on giving a recommendation for Terraria.

Emulators are a good plan B, myes.
That's pretty cool you still own those. Wish I could say the same haha. I honestly have no idea on where my N64 went. My PS2 is missing also.
I actually liked the NES more than SNES. I loved both, I played NES before SNES though, as weird as it sounds. lol
The GBs were fun, especially GB Color. A part of me wishes Nintendo would've kept the GB ports on their handhelds. I had the original DS with the smaller top screen/larger bottom screen, one or two modified DSs, a few DS Lites, DSi, 3DS. I still have one of my DS handhelds out of the truckload. haha

VideoGamerfrom20XX In reply to spitesyre [2016-08-15 17:24:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I only try to keep emulators in mind whenever the systems and games are no longer actively sold in most stores.
Sorry to hear your N64 is missing. I still own two PlayStation 2 consoles (one "Fat" model and one "Slim" model).
I also prefer the NES over the SNES mostly because the NES is the console with a library notorious for having some of the hardest video games today, although quite a few of these "extremely difficult" titles are overrated difficulty-wise. No, that doesn't sound weird to me the least: I played the N64 first, then the NES, then the SNES.
Agreed, although I like the original Game Boy the most. I so far only have a Nintendo DS Lite and besides some handheld LCD games and the original Nintendo Mini Classic Super Mario Bros., I don't own any other portable consoles.

spitesyre In reply to VideoGamerfrom20XX [2016-08-15 19:26:39 +0000 UTC]

Same here, I like the original GB most besides Color. I didn't get into GBA or SP but I did play the GB port some of the DS handheld titles had. To think a lot of those retro 8bit/16bit games have great OSTs to suit their platforms considering what little they had to work with is quite impressive I must say, not to mention the designs. I don't think a game has to have gorgeous graphics to be decent, same with the vice versa.
All the portables I've owned were Nintendos. I only have one portable console now & that's a DS Lite I've had for over six years. I'm surprised it's survived this long.

VideoGamerfrom20XX In reply to spitesyre [2016-08-15 21:22:20 +0000 UTC]

I'm not really into the Game Boy Advance either. With the exception of Nintendo's first-party titles (except Mario Party Advance and Mario Pinball Land), the only good GBA games were ports/remakes of older NES/SNES games. SEGA Genesis had ports too, but the two I managed to play were horribly slow and downgraded compared to the originals. Agreed, it feels like a renaissance of creativity spurred in that era and thus, created a strong foundation for today's games. I don't believe gorgeous graphics define a great game either, but it's nice whenever the game's graphics can age well.

Six years, huh? That's quite a while to have a console. With the exception of the Nintendo Mini Classic Super Mario Bros., I only had all of my portables for a little less than two years.
