Everybody seems to be an insomniac today, it must be spreading like in One Hundred Year of Solitude.

It must be the season. I never read that novel but I did unwittingly give it to someone on his 37th wedding anniversary as a friendly gesture. It wasnΒ΄t until I got home that it struck me....oH SHIIIIIIIIIIIII the EEFFFFIN TITLE!!

Hahaha, oh well. It was originally in Spanish, so you know it has to be a great story (which it is). I'm actually attempting to read the Spanish version...

MelaLugosi In reply to Xvania [2010-10-17 04:53:47 +0000 UTC]
yeah...it was the Spanish version, actually! With all due respect, good luck with that, Im not too crazy about Garcia Lorca.

Haha, well then I guess I'm your opposite. But then again, I love almost any book I can get my hands on, and right now I just feel like challenging myself.

Haha, definitely. That's exactly what I was going for because I am most obviously the exact opposite of all those things. (sarcasm )

I love ee cummings. I think you do, too, so that means IΒ΄m not a complete and utter ignorant. XD
π: 0 β©: 1
Xvania In reply to MelaLugosi [2010-10-18 22:09:48 +0000 UTC]
I absolutely adore ee cummings; I also think that "absolutely adore" makes me sound like an idiot in that sentence and I don't care :] .
Haha, Garcia Lorquez is an acquired taste anyway, so you wouldn't be ignorant for not liking his works.

MelaLugosi In reply to Xvania [2010-10-19 02:55:26 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I know. Who else do you like?
π: 0 β©: 1
Xvania In reply to MelaLugosi [2010-10-19 22:16:34 +0000 UTC]
Hmm. That's a tough one :] . I'm easy to please, so I like almost anything I pick up, but if I had to pick I'd say for more "serious" writing I like Kurt Vonnegut, George Orwell, and Ray Bradbury the most.
I also really enjoyed Ishmael by Daniel Quinn (I haven't read any other works by him so I don't know much about him as an author).
(Serious meaning not teen books- which I also happen to enjoy from time to time.)
Who do you like?
π: 0 β©: 1
MelaLugosi In reply to Xvania [2010-10-20 02:10:56 +0000 UTC]
Hmmm.. well....IΒ΄m no literature scholar so unfortunately, all I ever read from those authors were the required reading from high school. They are pretty aweseome nonetheless!
Me..?
Authors--Herman Hesse, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Truman Capote, My favorite book of all time is "The Prophet" by Gibran. Poets I do read more, theyΒ΄re like bumping into old friends...ee cummings, carl sandburg, robert frost, yeats, millay, emily dickinson, intl giorgos seferis and octavio paz. My "non serious" books would be early Stephen King lol.

Xvania In reply to MelaLugosi [2010-10-20 21:58:56 +0000 UTC]
haha well Ishmael was for high school... along with George Orwell, but I still like them a lot- and I'm no literature scholar either XD .
I've never read The Prophet, but maybe I should see to that! And wow that's a lot of poets... I think I'm going to have to catch up because I only know about half of those...
Haha, my non serious reading would be Ellen Hopkins; I love poetic format for storytelling (which is what I wrote my book in, figures). But my favorite book of all time is The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin; books about how humanity is completely messed up are what makes my mind sing :] .

MelaLugosi In reply to Xvania [2010-10-21 02:59:04 +0000 UTC]
I know youΒ΄re probably just being nice about "THe Prophet" but if you ever read it, I hope its a good translation.
I honestly donΒ΄t know that much about literature, I just had an English teacher in HS whose love for those poets was rlly contagious. She was crazy in a good way, lOL.
Humanity is screwed, no doubt. Aldous Huxley "Brave New World" is my favorite in that theme.

Xvania In reply to MelaLugosi [2010-10-21 21:00:25 +0000 UTC]
Nope; if someone mentions a book I almost make a point to go look it up and see if I can get my hands on it, and I happened to find a version online of "The Prophet" that I bookmarked :] .
And I will also be looking for "Brave New World" now, which actually sounds familiar. I always like new facts/ideas for my debates about why Humanity fails haha.

MelaLugosi In reply to Xvania [2010-10-21 22:18:09 +0000 UTC]
Cool! XD
IΒ΄m talking about getting the book, not referring to the fact that humanity does indeed fail.

MelaLugosi In reply to Xvania [2010-10-21 22:32:54 +0000 UTC]
oH. LOL.
I meant to say that I think its cool that you would look for a bood that somebody recommended, but the way it came out , it looked like i was saying that it was cool that humanity sucks. LOL. Sorry about that.

Oh! oh! I get it! hahaha, I can be such an idiot sometimes. That actually made complete sense and I just failed at reading it correctly... XD
