I get my very own thank you drawing? Eee! Decided I liked your work a lot, I've been meaning to experiment for a while and looking at your sketches I've realised I've got a long way to go. You make it look so easy! Any tips for a very rusty artist?

Pretty rusty myself...Thanks though. I just keep at it when I can. Carry a sketchbook everywhere and try to "grow" from time to time to build on what I know or remind me what I forgot. On-line tut's are great for learning the software but nothing beats paper(yet)
If you saw anything specific you liked or wanted to know I would be happy to share!
Thanks again!

I only did a tiny bit of digital work. When I first joined DA, I was a whiny 14 year old and art was only a side-line thing.. graduated into taking photos as it was quicker and easier to keep going with my (non art related) degree. I was much more of a pens and pencils person. I think what I admire about your work is how spontaneous it looks, properly illustrating something I just made up has always been nigh on impossible for me. That and I cannot do perspective. Either way, keep in touch, not enough people take the time to have a chat on this website!

atarashiidesu In reply to Zonia [2013-01-05 08:22:21 +0000 UTC]

perspective is hard. I have been studying it more lately...because I have to for a project I am working on.
The new sharpie pens are great for drawing and copic if they're around and you can afford them. Growing up I almost exclusively used pencil. It was the only medium I was comfortable in. I doodle a lot then find the drawing in the doodle so it's more like sculpting with lines than drawing and I find it has more energy too.
Agreed too many introverts unwilling to chat here!
Keep drawing!

Just heard about the huge earthquake in Japan today. I hope you are okay!

I'm fine, hundreds of miles away from the epicentre and I still felt it, which was the strangest half an hour of my life. Going from not sure if i'd just sat through an earthquake, to worrying if my friends in Tokyo were ok, because they were reporting something huge, to realising i'd felt the same earthquake as them...
Buisness as usual down here, which shocks me as the news is horrible. Everyone I know is accounted for, but not sure if everyone has heard from family yet.

Thank goodness, I double checked where you were at after sending the message and realized you were a bit further away. Have you been through many earthquakes before?

Zonia In reply to drgnelf [2011-03-13 01:29:00 +0000 UTC]

In England, we've had 3 in my lifetime. All of them I slept through, and they only registered at 3 on the scale, if that. This is the first one ive been awake for, for us it was at most a 3. So the first one i've noticed. Very strange. It wasn't a strong pulling from one side to another, more like the room swaying.

drgnelf In reply to Zonia [2011-03-13 06:05:48 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I imagined that England wouldn't be too much of a hotbed of earthquake activity. I live in Southern California so we have had a few big ones in the past, but any time I meet people from other areas that don't have earthquakes they always seem rather disturbed by the earth shaking.

We're very boring at home.

And hearing about people who live in deserts, living here on a massive faultline... i'm not upset about how boring home is at all!

Hi Zonia! I'm Gabby and we're both members of UnSeenArtists.
This is in relation to the translation of the FAQ in Spanish [link]
Would you feel insulted or get angry if I correct it? I'm studding Translation at the University and Spanish is my mother tongue.
I think it would be best to consult you since you did take the time to translate it

No, it's really fine! I'd love to get better at translating. My University is not the best in the world for what I want it to be, but i'm more than half way through my degree so there's not much point in quitting.

Well, I'm half way to getting my Master's Degree, but I still have a long way to go
Plus, I've never even left my country. I should really practice my English (with native speakers, of course ). So I completely understand how you feel!

Zonia In reply to Gabbyta [2010-09-30 11:52:53 +0000 UTC]

Well good luck with everything! I'm currently living abroad. It's hard. It's hard to push myself to keep learning with native speakers, too, because where i'm living has a lot of Europeans and we share English as something of a lingua franca. I'm just here to learn Japanese, not teach you all..

Gabbyta In reply to Zonia [2010-10-06 12:43:18 +0000 UTC]

I WISH I didn't have any problems with English, but it's all a matter of practice and effort. Thanks!

Zonia In reply to Gabbyta [2010-10-13 12:05:38 +0000 UTC]

But anyway..
You don't have any problems at all with tenses, and what you type sounds very natural, unlike my dodgy noun/adjective agreements and my tendency to make up words! I think you'll do fine.

About your question related to dialect, I just took this from the net: It refers to a variety of a language that is characteristic of a particular group of the language's speakers. The term is applied most often to regional speech patterns, but a dialect may also be defined by other factors, such as social class. Eg: "Y'all" and “You guys”; “Hello” and “Hullo”; “Tu sabes que te amo, niño” y “Vos sabés que te amo, purrete”. Then, there is also another meaning: A language socially subordinated to a regional or national standard language. Eg: Spanish is a dialect from Latin.
I hope I helped at least a little bit! ^w^
Thanks!

Zonia In reply to Gabbyta [2010-10-15 22:45:13 +0000 UTC]

Ah, you see i've studied this and while those are all valid points-
Nobody is really sure! Each language sets the limits of what a dialect is differently. A patois in French is a completely different thing to a dialect in English, despite roughly translating the same. And i'd argue that, despite knowing Spanish, I can't read Latin (Can make some educated guesses) meaning that despite the relation, they are very much separate languages.
Very few books on linguistics would be happy calling Spanish a dialect.
Y alemán? No puedo leer nada en la lengua..
