Thank you very much, your gallery is awesome too, you draw way better than me. The watercolour seems to be a fluke lol i did it for my A-levels in school (a looong time ago lol) and i have never been able to get any other watercolour to look as good *sigh*

Well, I wouldn't say my gallery is better, just different styles. That is what makes art so great, there are so many great styles!
I remember once I tried some watercolor, and I painted a boat, it turned out fairly decent, but I tried to redo it several years after that, and it turned out like crap I guess you either hit or miss with watercolor

It is great to finally know your name Matteo! You live in Italy? I saw your profile, and that is what it says. I want to visit Italy some day, it looks like a wonderful country! Oh, and the Mediterranean would be so great to see!
Now, about your Arantza tribute. You did that with a pencil! You have very cool skills! It looks so great! I can't even use a B2 pencil anymore, because I smudge things up too much. Maybe I should try again?
Talk to you later Matteo!

Well, I actually went through your gallery in one day, but I keep going back to it (I left the tab open), and checking out your work again. Then when I do see it again, I usually find something else that I really like.
Anyway, you're very welcome, and you do deserve every bit of it!
Hey, I was curious, I saw a photo of you in England on your page, (I think it is England). Where did you go? I went to Scotland, and England 6 or so years ago, and it was very cool! And recently, (last summer) I went to Sweden, Holland, and Denmark....(my wife is from Sweden originally). I don't know about you, but I tell you what....I was very glad I had the opportunity to go, but I was so thankful to come back home. No disrespect to folks in other countries (I met some VERY wonderful people overseas), but there is just something special about American people...now, our government is a different story, and you don't even want to get me started there .
Well, talk to ya later!

Thanks, dude!
Yes, I was in England over the Summer of 2008. It was quite wonderful. I toured England and I also went to Bulgaria and Turkey. As a matter of fact, my Sunflower series was inspired by that whole trip.
Yeah, there's nothing like traveling. I also went to Holland a couple of years ago, and i loved it. I'd love to go to your wife's homeland. In May I am headed out to Ireland. I'll let you know how it goes.
Any plans on going any where else in the future?
π: 0 β©: 1
americandodo In reply to odavis [2009-02-24 07:57:42 +0000 UTC]
I bet you had a great time! I do enjoy traveling to see how others around the world live, and to see things foreign to me.
Man, Ireland! That is one place I want to go! Scotland was awesome (probably the best foreign place I have been too). But I have wanted to go to Ireland for a LONG time! I think that the Celtic lands (not sure about Ireland, because I haven't been there yet) tend to be a little more laid back, and friendly than places such as Sweden, and Holland. At least for me, I found Scottish people to be fantastic! They were all so friendly. Swedes are cool people also, but they are really quiet, and keep to themselves. I remember when I went there, there was some guy walking down the road, and I said "Hej" Swedish for....you guessed it "hey/hi/hello", and both he and my wife looked at me like I was some freak. After he passed my wife asked me why I did that, and I was totally confused what the big deal was? I mean, I just said hi to a person passing by. I guess it is not customary to talk to strangers there....and small talk...don't even think about it. It is weird, here in the states, I am always saying hello to strangers, and if I am at a store, or something, I will shoot the breeze with anyone. It really is interesting to see how others react, and interact with each other.
Now as for my experience in Holland.....four words.."watch out for bikes". Man, I almost got my ass ran over by folks on bikes and mopeds. HAHAHA The history, buildings, and cities of Holland are great to check out! I bet you enjoyed it also huh? Oh, and the tolerated marijuana laws ain't bad either Though when I went there, you were not allowed to smoke in public, and they had just passed a law that outlawed any smoking in coffee shops also.....thank God my wife has friends we stayed with (she used to live in Utrecht).
As for your question....yeah, I want to go overseas again. I am sure my wife and I will go over to Sweden many times to come....and I will learn Swedish fluently.....and still talk to strangers. If nothing else for shock value But I personally want to go to Ireland, Brazil, Israel, Spain and back to Scotland. Of course there are always many more places that I want to see.
Well, enough of my jibber jabber. I have to go to bed very soon so I can go to the dentist tomorrow! Lucky me
Talk to ya later!
Dennis

Hahahahaha...yeah, i think the "talking to strangers" reaction you got in Sweden can happen anywhere. Try doing that stunt in Washington DC. They'd probably call the feds on ya! I think in the USA, the South and San Francisco were the only places, that I've visited, where I could get away with the random "hellos" and got a good response or conversation out of it. But I'm like you, though, I'm overly friendly to strangers. I'll speak to anyone. I think that's what's wrong with the world today in general. We are way too afraid of each other.
So you are near Portland, eh? I would guess it's pretty chill up there. I'd love to visit Oregon one of these days.
Yeah, I love Holland, dude. The lifestyle, the people, the women, the overall beauty of it. That's my third home away from home.
Hope the dentist went easy on ya, dude!

Yeah, I have honestly never been to the east side of the country. I got as far as Texas, then straight up clear to Minnesota....and every state west of there. I would probably get my ass shot in D.C.(by the Feds ) because I am just a friendly guy, and I like people.
Yeah, I live about 180 miles from Portland, and I do really love Oregon. Sure there isn't much to do on the East side of the state (low population) but it is very beautiful....if you like high desert, and mountains? But even in Portland, people are so nice, and they will help you, and give you a smile. Of course there are exceptions. But, you should check it out if you ever make it over here. It is a very diverse state, with lots of things to see.....well, again, if you like nature
I completely agree with you about people. It would be cool to see people a bit more united. And people are afraid of each other simply because they won't talk to each other...well, that is how I see it anyway.
So, are you from D.C.? Someday, I plan to get over to the east coast, and soak in some of the culture, and history there.
I am curious, if Holland is your third home away from home..what is your first and second? If you don't mind me asking?
Oh, and the dentist went easy on me.... well, except the bill
Good talkin to ya! And thanks for the reply! By the way, what is your name? Mine is Dennis....but I am sure you know that already

Oh really? Definitely do New York. You'll love it! And Florida is awesome if you want to go to some nice beaches and get some sun rays.
Yeah, i love nature! It's one of the reasons why i travel a lot. I just couldn't live in a nature-like environment. I am a city dweller at heart!
I am from DC. Most people here are not. It's a huge import city. it's nice place to visit. Lots to do and see. Definitely put it on your list of stops when you visit the east coast and we'll meet for that beer you promised me.
And you are you originally from Oregon?
Well my first and real home is right here in Washington, DC. My second home, but is like my REAL home, is New York City. I'm there at least once a month shopping, visiting friends or just taking in those New York vibes.
Yeah, you are lucky! my dentist is really a serial killer moonlighting as a dentist.
I'm Owen, Dennis. it's nice to meet you. Have you never visited my front page? I think I have my name on there...at least the last time I checked it was there.

I want to go to New York so bad! I have always wanted to! Florida seems nice as well, but I really love to see great cities! I am still fascinated by cities I have seen, like London, Amsterdam, Malmo, Portland, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dallas...to many to name...I would be here all day But there really is something great about visiting the city!
I guess I am opposite from you, I LOVE the city, but I am a nature boy, and need to live in the wide open.....oh, and when I say nature boy, I don't mean I hug trees I do care about the environment, and do my part to protect it.....but I do not blow up car dealerships because they sell Hummers and other "unenvironmentally friendly" cars (which has happened in Oregon). I feel using trees for firewood, paper, houses, etc. are fine, but throwing piles of trash on the side of the road isn't very cool.......but enough about me getting side tracked HAHAHA
Yeah, I am originally from Oregon, and have lived here all my life. I was born in Walla Walla, Washington though, (The other town so nice they named it twice ) How about you? Have you lived in DC your whole life? It sounds like you spend a good deal of time in NYC.....I can't blame you though, there is something magical about cities that I will never get tired of...well, other than traffic, HAHAHA But I love skylines, huge buildings, bridges, etc... There is something about cities I just crave deep down...but I just don't feel like living there...it just isn't for me, or maybe it is....I never have tried it, so who knows?
Oh, by the way, it is great to meet you Owen! And yeah, your name is on the front page of your profile....I just never noticed
Well, take care, and talk to ya soon!

Hahahahaha...you know darn well you go outside everyday before work and hug the biggest tree you can find!
I have lived in DC all my life. And it hurts to even say that because I am such a traveler like you. I recently featured a piece in my Sunflower series to express my feelings on my long life in DC: [link] I think not many, if any, caught on to its meaning. I think they thought it was a rant against the current administration or something political in nature, but it is really just a very personal statement about myself and current situation. That's all I'll divulge about it or I'll have to kill you.
Do you ever plan on or thought of leaving Oregon? Did you meet your Swedish wife traveling?
π: 0 β©: 1
americandodo In reply to odavis [2009-02-27 05:51:28 +0000 UTC]
HAHAHA Yeah, now that I am done hugging that tree I can write you back
Well, seeing as how I don't wanna die right now, I won't ask about your life in DC...but since I revisited your "Home Again", and getting to know you a bit more....I think I know what you mean. I could see how someone would get it mixed in with politics...but now...I know what you mean, and I feel ya!
You know, I have often thought about leaving Oregon (I do absolutely LOVE my home state though). I think the main thing holding me back is my current job. I feel chained to it, and I hate that feeling. But now I am married, and have a baby on the way...it is hard to just up and leave my job. So I figure I will do my darnedest to try and make a go with art. I need much more practice, but if I can make ends meet doing something I love....that would be the way to go. But yeah, I have on many occasion wanted to just get out, and go somewhere else. I have often thought of moving to Scotland. I really love it there.
As for my wife and I...we met online at communities.com It is a place like myspace. We started off chatting about life, and over time, we became good friends.....the rest is history Gotta tell you though...best move I ever made She is a wonderful woman!
So, do you ever plan on leaving DC?
