I'll need to wait a week or so though - this weekends wages are going toards paying mum back the last of the laptop xD
I really want to do an animation course, leaning towards CGi at the moment although Id love to do 2D....But I'm thinking of de Montfort at the moment, any suggestions? ;v;

okay, well when you have the funds feel free to drop me a note, we could even discuss what you'd like beforehand. :)
if you like 2D animation, have you thought of doing an illustration & animation degree? as that's the closest you really get to 2D animation courses, though you would most likely learn a bit of CGI too. the best one of those would be at kingston, and there's also one at manchester met (the art school there is amazing, don't be fooled by what uni it's part of haha!).
i've also heard of good animation courses at bournemouth (apparently that's the best one?), teesside, norwich, UCA, falmouth. i'm going into illustration so i don't know too much about them, the only real way to tell if you want to go somewhere is by going to an open day really!

Well when i do get the money together it would more than likely be one of my OC's - I always get them in commissions xD Its nice to see how different artists interprit their designs and personalities!~
Yeah I asked about doing an animation and illustration dual course, my grades are no problem at all and im ok to skip the foundation course, but apparently because animation is such a big course in itself they dont let you join it with illustration :L
I heard about bournemouth and we applied for prospectus but it's so so far away, I wouldnt be able to come home except for like twice a year - thats too big a jump, especially with my medical things going on xD
I'm going to 3 open evenings so far at edge hill, a welsh one that I cant pronounce and de montfort - I might so look at the mancheter one too, I have to be honest - I'd judged it by the uni itself, I guess I should look into their art courses too since its nearby! Thanks for the advice ;v;

ahh i didn't mean a joint honours, there are actual degrees called 'illustration with animation'. check it out - [link] [link]
i would really suggest looking into foundation courses because you'll find that a lot of places won't give you interviews/accept you without one (i know that kingston certainly wouldn't), even if you're highly skilled, because it's a whole new way of learning and creating art, makes you leave the a-level mindset, think in new ways, become more independent etc.
some places value it over others but if you want to get into a prestigious course they're more than likely going to ask for it! i would suggest, when the time comes, to apply to all the degree courses you want but also apply to foundations in case you don't get where you want to be - it's only free if you're under 19 so definitely don't leave it until it's too late! i'm paying over £3,000 for my foundation course, you don't wanna have to deal with that. xD
aww, that's a shame about bournemouth being too far. i felt the same about manchester as i got accepted there (for the foundation), and i absolutely love the course there but it scared me as i don't know the city at all and it's so far/expensive to get to.. my train to the interview cost me £50! but if it's nearby enough to commute, definitely take a look at their foundation course too - it's one of the best in the UK (and they actually value drawing skill ohoho), so if you do end up needing to do one you have an amazing course right by you.
you're welcome, after two years of going all over the country to open days i seem to be in the know about art courses haha :P

Wow I really didn't know about kingston - I'll definately look into that! Distance could be a bit of an issue tough, which is a pain, ideally i need somewhere where I can come home everyweekend for medical reason - it's not too big a deal if I can't but it would help tremendously if I could...
I didn't even know anywhere did an actual degree specifically for both animation AND illustration - that really shocked me! It's just, ugh, the distance ;__; It would be a real inconvenience to veen go down for an open day.....I was thinking de montfort because Im sacrificingthe illustration side to be able to come home when i need to, but now that I know about London I might need to reconsider and go take a look, order a prospectus at the very least xD
And I was thinkin that about the foundation course - I wanted to do it because it gets me extra points/an extraa qualification and it's free till im 19 - might as well sit around it for another year to make sure I have all my doors open, but both my teachers and my parents are saying I can skip it....I don't know what to do, I might just apply so I can change my mind if i want to....
But thank you so much for all of this information!! I'll mull it over with mum tonight when she gets back from work. You've really helped a lot! Xx

ahh that doesn't sound fun, maybe that's another reason you might want to take the foundation year, so you can still live at home and look after your health a bit? i was kind of in the same situation once as i had pretty severe M.E., didn't think i'd be able to finish school let alone go to uni, but i've recovered from it completely now. :D obviously that may not be the case with you, but maybe you could improve? who knows.
yeah, i haven't heard of any courses apart from manchester and kingston though. that's a shame because when i visited kingston (again, for the foundation course, which i didn't get into, boo) i was instantly like oh my godddd i want to go here! you really get a feel of the place, the course, the people, and of course you get to see students and their work which is a huge factor for me. it's a bit annoying to get there though as you have to get a train to central london, then a separate train to kingston that takes like 20 minutes haha, they really need an underground station. but the place is absolutely gorgeous, and the students look really happy and focused there! so definitely try and make an open day if you can as you wouldn't be able to tell any of those things from getting a prospectus.
it's definitely a good idea to do the foundation - my art teacher doesn't like the idea either and actually sent me a cheeky email saying places are still available for degree courses at UAL, but i've already paid my fees for the foundation there! facepalms all round. if you did want to apply to kingston, they're quite elitist and very tough on their applicants and i can't see them accepting anyone without it. :o i'm pretty sure that manchester have a preference for foundation students too. and besides, most people that have done it say it's the best year in education of their life as you really get to experiment and just do what you want!
you're most welcome, i'm so glad i've helped. :>D

and your pets will sit with you?
I just found out i was rejected for a app Nimorika_wind the uc faerie xweetok, i loved my whole page for her, and it turns out the owner like the new owner because she was a writer. i mean i love towrite but not like pages long, i love more art aspect more. I'm just so shocked and discouraged now with applying for any pet like her now ;--;

yes, i quit in the past and put my draik inflicts UFA which ended up being a loooong time consuming process, i couldn't go through that again haha, even though i found a really good owner! i'm the same actually, though i like writing from time to time i'm a highly visual person, so my apps/petpages were really art based as well. the trick is to find a way to stand out, like my application for pearl was mostly videos and i talked about all the 'appy' stuff in person, and had then had links to her petpage, lookup etc., of course i had to ask the owner if she's be okay with an off-site application. :) so the trick is to think of something unique!
