Yeah, I know that feel. Minus the scholarships (although I'm going to have to start). I don't recall if I already asked you before, if so I apologize, but what are you looking at going for and where are you looking to go?

That would be an honor for me. What sort of woodburning (I'm assuming wood burning) did you have in mind?

Well what I would like to do is go down to Eastern Illinois University, and study theater/arts there. Though what I will probably end up doing to going to Black Hawk because it's cheaper and I already have enough saved to go a year there for cheap. It's quite the hard choice, debt or little debt, and familiar or unknown.

I was thinking, if there where any symbols for "Welcome home" or maybe protection? I'm not to familiar with (norse??) symbols.

Never underestimate the quality of going to a community college. But just be sure that if you do go that all of the classes you can take will line up with your degree. Probably not a problem for you, but for me I will have to take a bunch of semesters of German BEFORE actually taking German classes towards my degree since BHC only offers Elementary Level German... Whereas at Uni I could have taken the other German levels while doing my General Ed. Wouldn't change it for the world though, because some professors are absolutely amazing and make it worth it.

IF You do decide to go to Black Hawk, let me know what classes you are looking at taking. Or, if you want to check with my opinion on how certain professors are before signing up with them, I'd be more than happy to help. I've gone there long enough to know at least a good deal of the professors. Could be of help. Either way, I wish you luck.

I could look on symbols for a "welcome home" theme. But in terms of Protection, there is the Rune known as Algiz which is often used to symbolize protection. Or there is also the Aegishjalmur symbol (the symbol I've most recently woodburned) or the Vegvisir symbol. Aegisjalmur was used as a sign or protection for warriors, and was also used to inspire fear or irresistibility in battle. Vegvisir on the other hand is known as the "guide post". It was used by sailors as a means of protection as well as guidance to ensure a safe journey. Perhaps that would seem more fitting, but nonetheless here are what they look like:

I go to the Quad Cities campus. Why, are you planning on going to East Campus? I have no knowledge about that campus unfortunately.

Well, perhaps the Vegvisir one would be of most importance. After all it was historically used by sailors for protection during journeys, so very fitting if you do indeed migrate for University.

What size would you want it in and what would be the price range? I could do a big 12" plaque like my most recent woodburning, but that would probably be too pricy for you and would take me a good amount of time to make in-between school. But of course I'd be more than willing to make one.

Otherwise I can use smaller wood plaques, I've done a smaller Vegvisir plaque in the past, I think there's a photo of it online somewhere...

I started working on it already, I have the symbol roughly burned, I just need to burn it deeper into the wood, apply a shade to the background, burn around the border, and then apply the stain to it. Hopefully will get it finished no later than 1 week. *fingerscrossed*

Ended up procrastinating on an English paper to finish up your woodburning today. (don't worry, I always procrastinate papers! ) I'm in the process of staining it now which takes a couple of hours. Then I have to let it sit for a good half day or more to let the wood dry completely and for the smell of the stain to dissipate as much as possible. I'll take pictures of it and send them your way as soon as possible. I hope you like the outcome, and if you don't I can remake you one.

Will probably let you know over Facebook too, since DevART isn't the easiest means of communication.
