Your dolls are the most beautiful dolls I've seen in years of study and teaching! OMG I wish I could do something like that! What kind of material do you use to make these masterpieces?

dollist In reply to MarylinFill [2011-02-06 22:10:39 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! I use premier stone clay to sculpt the original, then make silicone molds and cast in resin.

MarylinFill In reply to dollist [2011-02-07 10:40:24 +0000 UTC]
Oh, I've never heard about premiere stone! In Russia we have "ladoll" and "premiere" clays among "paperclay"... BTW, I know that resin could be very bad for your health during molding, is than true?

dollist In reply to MarylinFill [2011-02-08 01:36:19 +0000 UTC]
Yes, that's the clay! I'm not too fond of the ladoll, but the white premier clay is what I use (its sometimes referred to as stoneclay). I use polyurethane resin which I think is fairly safe, although it can cause allergic reactions in some people, or burns if it gets on your skin when its curing. I haven't had any major mishaps with it.

Oh, I see, thanks for the info! I love the way resin works with light, it has this cool transparency... Is it solid enough? I use baking clays for my work but they are too fragile for BJD
Sorry for being annoying))) I am a doll teacher in Russia

My dad died July 5th and I had some people suggest I'd make a new article about it. Would you please consider taking some of your time out to read and see what you can do to help?

After you've read the news article, please be so kind to follow the link to my journal titled 'My Dad'; it explains everything.
