I'm a web developer and an artist living in Upstate New York (don't look-up the location, it just means "not NY City").Intriguing, complex, bazaar, intricate, fascinating, and abstract art turns me on a lot and I lean toward traditional art, but my taste is varied and eclectic. I think i could agree on that. I'm honestly trying to learn to use the program since all i've been doing is designing things and trying new effects out. My main problem is when i go to do something more lively, i never seem to enjoy drawing the characters. Maybe i should try to design something and then draw it how it's acting?
I'll try that with my current creature that i'm working on, it's built like a gorilla so maybe i can show it doing something? Any ideas on what it could do?

Hmmm, maybe the gorilla dude could be wrestling, like backhanding one enemy while it has another in a headlock? You could have the backhanded enemy kind of flying back, like the second after he was hit.

Hmm, i'll try something out. I think stuff like that is just outside my skill level lol; too complicated to color O_o

Maybe try doing it as two separate projects, one a line drawing and the other a colored version. Actually, if you just want to draw it, I might be into coloring/texturing it.

Perhaps. I'm trying ti visualize a scene, but it's really hard to think of something. I don't like drawing the back of the head type images, but i don't want to keep it on a 2d plane, you know? Feeling how how some of the things that i draw, and how they would move is another challenge lol.

yeah, I know what you mean about moving to the next level. Maybe you could base it strongly on a photo or another person's work until you get better.
How about a grizzly beast being swarmed and eaten alive by tiny little dudes?

What?!? Lol, you have a strange imagination man!
Lol, anyway, i sketched something up and posted it; you can't really see much cause the lines are all scribbly but it's the best i could do free hand. Perhaps i should look into photo referencing.

Haha, too bad, I can picture one of your huge dudes with about 10 little imps ripping him apart.

Lol, that's interesting though. I mean i've just recently been able to really see things in action, but it's more of them speaking or just doing their daily things. I can think of tons of awesome scenes, like say Corrus has a tome that he's floting in front of an errupting volcano with his hand out stretched firing a crazy purple beam at one huge rock troll or something...but i can't find a perspective i like. I get it sketched, but it's sort of statick or doesn't show off the scene in my head

Well, some people do like 50 thumbnail sketches to get out all of crap. You should try at least 10 quick sketches to get your mind moving.

I'll try it out. I'm going to do more design/portrait things still as it helps me get the ideas down, but i'll try to do some sketching of a particular design i like to see if i can get a good sequence down.

Ahh it's all good; i made my peace with life at that point i suppose.
I don't know about talent lol. I realized i may not have the skillz of a professional, but i drew this : [link]
One layer, all cross hatch...it was fun. I figure i will just draw to draw, and if i get good then so be it, ya know?

I saw that one earlier, and not to give you a big head, but that's professional quality. It's very cool and well done.
I hear you though. If you enjoy drawing, then that's the reward, and if others like it, that's just a plus.

Well i was getting all big headed until i went to a place called conceptart.org. THOSE are pros...i am a hobbyist lol.
I'm thinking of going to school now, maybe graphic design or web design. What do you think?

I'll check out that site.
Glad to hear you're considering school. I'd recommend graphic design, since most web companies have a graphic designer who provides graphics.

Yeah, i went there and posted up in the "sketchbook" section...man, got ran outta there in two days lol. The "It's finally finished" section was where i gave up on trying to become one of them, especially since they are all trying to find work lol. It's like you compete with people that have been doing it for 50 years, and they can STILL do it.
Graphic design? Now is that something with illustrator, vectors, etc? I know those programs pretty well, also corel draw...but i suppose i would have to learn them more deeply. I think it sounds like a good field to work in, just not sure if i have the skills to compete in designs. I only draw monsters lol.

It looked like only members could view the art.
For a degree in Graphic Design, you need to do stuff by hand and on the computer. It's a specialized Art degree, so you have to theory, design, mediums. I think you could design a mean snowboard or edgier graphics, not necessarily mass consumable.

That's something that i need to work on then. I love drawing my characters, but i need to work more into realism and things that others can connect with. I'd love to do designs that have my style put into them, but if someone wants a gift card design, or someone wants a cook book re-done, i'm not so confident in my skills...so i need to learn that stuff lol.

A cookbook is a scary thought. You could have the last page with your characters devouring and fighting over the food.
Graphic Design is everywhere though. Anything that has an artistic design to it was done by a Graphic Artist.
Happy Thanksgiving!

That is a garage in Albany that has my car. They had "fixed" a problem with it twice, and had been paid twice, but the problem is still happening (it won't start when the weather is damp). Then my exhaust system blew and I needed new tires, which I can't pay for, so there is a lien on the car until I pay them for the exhaust system work and new tires. I refuse to pay because I've paid $500 for them to fix a problem with the car that they never fixed. So, they have my car, and I have no transportation.
