Sounds like you had a lot of fun!
It will be a long time before I get to enjoy a nice vacation. (I just got hit in the face with a wicked massive financial "Uh-oh" so in order to get out of that giant "F-you" I got in my email box it will be a hard fight. But I have a plan! It's not gonna be fun but as long as no emergencies come up I'll be out of this debt)
Man, Fiji has to be an awesome visit! Food is some of the best reasons to travel for me. (Probably why I am fat! Fewd for the soul)

Been.... here. Last year was rough. Rented a room of my house to my niece with no contract and was left in a massive financial mess. Things got so tense I ended up making an apartment downstairs I lived in and rarely went upstairs. When I finally had enough and with help had her thrown out I had to replace all the upstairs furniture except for one couch and the coffee table which is still ruined and I had to replace a lot of appliances. I may have to replace the kitchen counters because where the dishwasher screws into the counter top is stripped and larger screws aren't working.Β
No real projects, but I have a lot in the plans as money allows! I am taking the detailing on the Camaro more seriously, there are some areas that get missed on a lot of street cars that I am giving some attention to. Like painting the inside of the fender wells black, the gas tank, even under the grille behind the hood and some areas under the hood. My biggest upgrade is going to be a pain, mostly sourcing materials I can afford, is a trunk finishing kit I have that covers all the ugly stuff in the trunk like the taillight buckets and the lock mechanism. I need to get some vinyl which normally not all the expensive, but the colors I want to use are. I may forgo the purple with black and do teal as the accents. There will be an embossed Chevrolet bowtie. It's a custom version of one of these.
www.ebay.com/itm/Alien-Enclosu…
But yeah, money is tight as hell. My property tax went way up and I have to come up with $3000 by end of April. It can be done, but it's going to suck getting there. But I can brag about owning a house that was $175,000 when I moved in and currently is estimated to be $375,000! I have a plan to get out of debt, it wont be fun but once it's done I'll be living nice!

Sorry to hear about the hassles. the housing market in America sure must be different to here. we bought our house in a nice but not great neighbourhood for $192000 But that was 16 years ago. be lucky to get anything around here this size forΒ  under 450k now, they nock them down and put 2 and 3 house/unit things on them now and still charge a minimum 350k. But can't complain Adelaide house prices are the best in the country, I know the mean average price in Sydney now is over 1 million... So crazy

HotRod-302 In reply to ericthedread [2019-02-08 03:09:06 +0000 UTC]

We get to that point here, like my dad got his house for something crazy like $65,000, less than one guy I know paid for his truck. Now it's worth about $250,000 and rising. He got the house he rents to my sister for under $60K and now it's in the $300K range. We are turning into the next California, we have an Amazon warehouse ten minutes away from me. Along the way HUGE apartment complexes are going up because the amount of people coming here from around the country they can't make them fast enough. About 20 minutes from here is where a bunch of really nice old turn of the century homes are being torn down because, even though those homes could be worth a fortune, they can build three or four houses on that same property and make a huge profit. But for me those houses would be a dream come true because they're maybeΒ  a little smaller than mine they have huge garages where tractors and even semi trucks were stored. One even had a huge barn, which is being spared because it's a landmark. (That barn would be amazing! Build cars on the floor and the upper level where the hay and whatever else goes up there... MAN CAVE! Hell... I'd probably just live there.)

I don't understand WHY everyone wants to set up shop here. It's a beautiful state, but we don't have a lot to do to occupy people. We get a ton of snow and nobody knows HOW to drive in the stuff. It was negative 9 degrees Fahrenheit here. They're driving cost of living up and when they all go to the next big state to live in we will have tons of apartments and homes vacant. Granted... they'll be virtually giving them away. Just like Detroit!
Did you have a good birthday? No police intervention needed or anything?

Nope nice and sedate, no police intervention required. just my best mates that I've had for coming up on 35 years now, nice BBQ and a lot of CC and dry
you need a man cave. I love mine, more gold class cinema than man cave but it's my peaceful place. built it with the father inlaw after I had bad car accident, stupid Indian woman ploughed through a red light and busted my back and killed my favourite car. It was a case of build a happy place or jump off the roof. was working at a high end hi-fi store here in Adelaide when it happened and the reps were all awesome and cut me some great deals on packing it full of nice equipment. couple months back had my first upgrade since I built it, 8 years ago now. replaced my projector bluray and AV amp. Love the new projector, 4K sony looks amazing have it on 100" screen.
not sure above your weather you can keep that -9 crap
NTH Queensland had some odd weather over the past month, they had a years worth of rain in 7 days, and were talking about a place that gets lots of rain. 1 of the days they had 300mm in 4 hours.
we just missed it . started 1 week after we got back from holidays. Did you see my fish I posted?

I have a pretty decent man cave set up in my bedroom, though I don't let anybody in the bedroom, but I have a 60 inch class 4K TV screen with an Xbox One X for games and 4K HDR movies. Being a gamer I have my Xbox One X, Playstation 4 Pro with PSVR, Nintendo Gamecube, Playstation 2 from Japan, reverse compatible PS3 and a regular PS3, and og original Xbox and a DVD recorder and an XBox 360 and modded PS1 as well a Raspberry Pi retro game console all wired in with HDMI (Except the Gamecube). I have a decent surround sound setup, it was about $400 new and is aging, but still works. I have two subs plumbed into it, one amplified and one not.Β
Upstairs in my newly redone living room I have a decent setup, too. A 60 inch non 4K hd TV with an Xbox One s, the surround sound on it is low end though. I found it abandoned in the trash, but it still works fine! I really need to find a way to get a working optical out switcher since it doesn't accept HDMI. It floats in between a curio cabinet setup with a remote lighting setup and has large pull out DVD racks on each side. I got those for $50 second hand... from a funeral home. When I replaced the couches I got nice power recliners with LED light up underglow and cup holders.Β
Then there's my shop, which I have plans for when money becomes more abundant. Though currently it's in bad need of cleaning, I want to find a good quality projector TV to put in there! With the house there was a 10 foot wide pull down projection screen I want to mount in front of the cars for a drive in experience!
Our weather is always odd. Yesterday we didn't even need a coat and today we have an inch of snow. I thought I might have seen the fish pics, but I don't see them on there now. I definitely saw the birbs, though!

Thanks rich.... How goes the car?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HotRod-302 In reply to ericthedread [2014-02-18 07:04:18 +0000 UTC]

The car is doing pretty nice, there are a couple minor concerns, one of which I'll dink around with in the next couple days. Otherwise with the new rotating assembly and the tighter linkages it drives a lot nicer! But it doesn't like starting more than once. If it runs for any length of time and isn't given the chance to FULLY cool down the starter kicks back VERY hard. I'm worried about chipping the teeth. Normally that means too much spark advance but I have tried to retard the timing and it doesn't seem to be helping. So I have my pal with the super mega expensive and NASA accurate timing light to check it all out.

The other thing is when it gets to running temp. Right around 180 degrees (Which the fuel injection requires to go into closed loop) the cooling system 'splodes. I was burping out the air with the cap off and suddenly "BLAM!" it sprayed the walls with the coolant. With the radiator cap on it jjust blows out the coolant canister. It's just a sudden thing...Β

I'm happy with the way the Camaro is looking. It's also running a lot nicer. I need a hotter thermostat because the fuel injection doesn't go into closed loop until it reaches 160 degrees which is hard to get the engine to. My cooling system is so big I just have to get a cooler thermostat.
