As for the shoulder, it's definitely weird, and I definitely liked it that way. It was horribly over-exposed in the source shot, which was not acceptable. But once I got it toned down (which was not easy), I liked how it became an ambiguous concealment, esp. when the viewer's eye is locked with hers and you only see it out of your peripheral vision.
That doesn't mean the effect is successful, mind you. Your crit is entirely valid. It just means it did turn out more-or-less as I intended.

ps - yeah, you remember the last "big project." This one intends to be the first one to top it. Though I think it's still a couple months off, at this point.

I was Photoshopping years before I got serious with a camera...
Hell, I didn't get really serious with a camera until you told me to.
Anyway, if you're getting a kick, you should definitely be watching my Scraps (not for commenting, but just to watch) - it's my intention to eventually upload almost ALL of my originals in there. (Did you see this yet?)
You'll see eventually that I'm only moderately talented at photography, but that Photoshop saves my ass.
And I do so love finding new ways to surprise you.

Imagine my surprise when get a comment on a relatively old work from someone I don't know (unless you know who I am...Michael Karr...in which case I think that I know which joanna you are...), and much more when I find out that she's from Columbia, South Carolina...where I lived three years ago before I packed up and moved to holland...

Well, you may have noticed I put it in the "Dark Art" category. Yes, it was very deliberate to make something both horrific and beautiful.
