I had no idea until today that Jay had passed away. I never met him but do have to pieces of his art in my home. He was a talented young man. I'm sorry for your loss, Mazie.

I posted this to tumblr the other day, thought I'd share it here for anyone who wants to read.Β
MySpace had been an interesting place for kids to connect with total strangers. There were no barriers, it was like the 60s of the Internet age. Things moved just fast enough to get everyone in trouble and each of us thought we were connected to a greater amount of people than we actually were. The interesting thing about this time for me is that I was actually able to utilize this new format to collaborate with artists that I am still connected to but have never met in person. One of my favorite artists that I had ever worked with was J. Parsons.
J was an interesting painter who just so happened to purchase one of my physical CDs (thatβs right, you could stream music but you couldnβt sell it any other way than actual tangible music). I had put out a little folk/bluegrass album called Love Donβt Give a Fuck where I hand designed each individual case with the assistance of my friends. He hit me up and said heβd be more than happy to actually draw some shit up at no fucking charge, that seemed pretty fucking rad.
thelegendaryjaredlee.bandcamp.β¦
It was really cool to find someone who genuinely enjoyed my music enough to collaborate with me. It honestly made me feel cool as shit to sell my music to strangers and have said strangers reply to me to make my music cooler. J. Parsons made some amazing artwork, not just for me but in general. It was fucking good.
Our bond stemmed from our mutual love for Hank Williams Sr., in fact I bought a print of a portrait he had done of Ole Hank. He was rather prolific in his production of artwork. Cranking out paintings and collages that would make your skin crawl. It was some gothic shit, coming from a dark place. We continued to work on creepy album covers together, one of which was a classic dick finger.
thelegendaryjaredlee.bandcamp.β¦
Iβd shoot him ideas and heβd throwβm back to me. One in particular was the cover to Transient Love, the first Attack on Uranus album. I told him about a bizarre scenario the lead singer and I witnessed on our way to band practice where we saw two homeless men embracing each other on a steaming manhole cover in downtown Kansas City. He took this idea and created this gem.
thelegendaryjaredlee.bandcamp.β¦
It was classic. Everything about it. The whole band loved it. It really was about as close to what I envisioned inside of mind as possible. He was a person with immense talent. He sent me the original drawings of these covers in 2008 something that surprisingly made it out of my recent house fire. I am so glad I still have these works. It still blows my mind how much he valued my work as an artist. I saw him as an artist with much more talent than I had. It seemed natural for him. Just awesomeness oozing out of him extending to the ever expanding reaches of the Internet. As things continued to grow it seemed easier to become disconnected from people. Around the same time he sent me the original artwork from my albums I saw a painting he had created.
francisff.deviantart.com/art/Iβ¦
It gave me the idea of starting a project called Absinthe Mind. I inquired about the artwork but he was not able to give a definitive answer as to whether it was available for purchase but he told me I could use the likeness as I saw fit. Really, thatβs fucking awesome. He was such a giving person and I had essentially known him from just the intangible aspects of the web. But after a while it seemed we werenβt tangled in the same texture any more. His MySpace disappeared (as did everyoneβs). He didnβt upload any new work to his deviant art site and I honestly assumed that he just dropped off. No big deal. Shit happens to artists. Sometimes success doesnβt happen the way you want it to and you move on to a different outlet. I had always hoped he would do well. Hoped that he was successful at whatever endeavor he pursued but thatβs not how things always work. A friend of mine recently said thatβs part of love, the people you care about most in the world will leave.
J. Parsons passed away in early 2009, I had no idea. I wasnβt close to his family or close friends on social media, so I had no way of hearing anything. I just recently discovered there was a comments sections on his website. Iβd still stop by his page a couple times a year to see if there were any updates and this last Sunday I saw the posts from his mother. It was fucking heart breaking. I read every word she had posted. Every piece of pain she had processed. Suicide tears families apart.
Itβs somewhat poignant that I make music with the group whose name he inspired by naming each one of our albums with positive affirmations about making it through this life some of us canβt find a way out of. The most recent album is called, βDonβt Ever Fucking Give Upβ. Those words have never held truer. Hereβs to you Jay, you made my world a better place to be in and I am forever grateful for that. You truly were a special person.

There have been times where I tried to utilize the powers of the internet to find you again. It truly saddens me to see that you have passed. I had no idea. I lost contact with you and I'm sorry for that. Thank you so much for the artwork you shared with me. Thank you so much for your support and investment in my art. Collaborating with you truly helped my journey. I will forever cherish the works of yours that are in my home. Thank you for everything.

Okay, now we are looking at 7 years and I am madder than Hell at you...You had no right to take your life and now you have been taking mine for the last 7 years...When I found you hanging I saw the hurt in your face so I wasn't able toΒ get mad at you or I didn't allow my self...I am allowing myself now...I burned your easel yesterday along with some of your other belongings...I have taken all your art work down except for a couple of pieces in the guest room...My sunflower and roses that you painted for me...Everything else I destroyed or sent to your step-dad...I have been dying of a broken heart and I don't want to let that happen any longer...I have to remember to dance and I hope you do the same on your final journey...Love you forever...Good-bye Your Mother Mazie

You should consider creating a work for this project or submitting some of your existing works. It's not about the prizes which are nominal; but the ability to marry your work to a planet-saving effort in the eye of extraordinary art world and ecology leaders. [link] It would also be wonderful if you were to pass along the word to all of the other artists you connect with.

Wow. I came here to see if anything new had been uploaded on your page that I somehow missed lately - and see a post from Johndiss saying RIP.
That's just so sad. Such talent wasted - and it's not the first one I've heard of just this month.
I don't know what's going on with people but if anyone out there is thinking of following suit - don't. Life changes so fast - DO something and you can change it. A small change every day amounts to a lot very quickly.
Sad to see you go Mr Parsons.

Rest in peace. I don't care why you did it. I just know you left a ton of sad people behind. What the fuck james? you had so much talent.

Wonderful gallery! Not only do your images evoke one of my favourite painters, Christopher Nevison, but you also manage to cover my interests in/obsessions with Discordianism, Satanism, Lovecraft, Norse gods and general freakery and wonder.
Seeing your work has totally made my day.
